Hi Kieth if the vase is signed (VASART ) on the base, it was made between 1946 and 1956 and if it is not signed it was made between 1956 and 1964.

Did any of the pre-56 Vasart (i.e. Ysart Brothers) items just have the round "Vasart" label without the acid signature?

Many thanks,56-64 it is,unless someone forgot to sigh it ::) ;D ;D

Don't forget M&S, John Lewis, Liberty, Elwell, and others, probably including most factors.

The answer is I don't know Kevin, I have 3 pieces of Vasart with the round label and all are signed Vasart.

According to Cathy, no. But we all know how reliable first hand sources are. So it is possible but unless the piece has dated provenance no way of knowing as the same colours designs and methods are common to both periods.

The answer is yes, whilst looking through my Vasart pieces which have been boxed and stored, I came across this piece which has the round label and not signed.

Wow if that is boxed and stored, would love to see what is on display....

Well found Gary. Without the label, purely visual assessment of which "Vasart" period becomes more difficult.
Now I am happier in one sense because it becomes just as hard to be sure of Ysart Brothers (Vasart) / Vasart Ltd general art glass as it is for paperweights (few of which, from the Ysart Brothers period, are acid signed and even fewer have the round label). ;D

You are right there Kevin dating Vasart pieces will need a rethink on my part as I always dated Vasart ie signed 1946-1956 and non signed 1956-1964.

With limited space to display large bowls/plates it is a problem to decide what to display.

For dating to one of those two periods, uv checks can help ... if there is enough clear glass visble to get a reasonable result.
For paperweights it is easier because of the amount of clear glass and so far, the 1956 changeover does seem to fit well, with the Vasart Ltd pieces showing blue under shortwave uv and not blue for the Ysart Brothers years (and pre-war stuff).
