Hi everyone, I recently bought this vase or centerpiece and I have no idea about the origin or maker.
It is 28 cms high.
I would greatly appreciate if you help me to identify this piece.
Thanks.

Im not very good at id'ing pieces but think I have seen some French Glass with Mermaids on a while back but cant find the link I had. Might be a starting point.
-
I'm sure I've seen this identified recently - it was Czech, either Inwald or Libochovice...
I'll have a look through my reference materials this weekend and see if I can dig it out again
Steven :)

I know Inwald/Barolac made a Mermaid bowl...just not certain about a vase.

Hello, thanks for your help, I know about the Inwald's mermaid bowl or plate, in fact I have it, take a look at:

But I think there is no Inwald's mermaid Vase, and the mermaid pattern of the vase is different.
Thanks again.
Best

Just trying to help jog memories or something, but Nigel posted a clock recently that has mermaids on -
here - I can't tell if it's similar or not as the pic is too small. He discussed it possibly being by S Reich.

I hope this is helpful rather than a not needed distraction :)

Hi everyone! I am still trying to find any information about this piece but I still have no clue!
Do anyone have any idea about ID this piece?
I am obsessed about it! ;)
Thanks

Probably a stupid question but how is the blue colour done on the vase. Is it enamels done after it was blown or is the glass actually blue.

Hi! it is a bluish patina (or enamel) done after, the glass has no color, thanks for asking

thanks - was that technique used in Czechoslovakia? I know it was in France, but just wondered whether it was a peculiarly French technique.

hi Hugo,
Frank posted a link to M Model, Verdun in this thread:
http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,50647.msg287640.html#msg287640
and more here:

any faint mark on yours also? i don't say yours is Verdun, but similarities are obvious to me :)

Maybe 1930's Phoenix Glass.
-
While they used some intricate molds its not Phoenix or U.S.

While Model is a possibility I have not seen mermaids that tally. There are other short lived French makers for this type of glass and somewhere I have a catalogue from another. It is surprising that this one has eluded an id so far... but the design of the top is significant. There are some Czech similar and also French that used similar, it has always struck me as the top of a container/bottle works. There are some of those that ventured into decorative glass in that period.
This type of stain was used elsewhere but mostly France.

Had a look through my resources but sadly I must have remembered wrongly as I can't find this model. While as Frank says the coloured stain/ patina was mostly a French technique, Inwald at least used similar applied colours. Several Barolac pieces are known with this effect -- for example the 'Loss of the Revenge' vase shown in Manley has a green stain, while I've had floral vases of theirs with various coloured stains.

Thanks Steven, that's good to know :)
