Hi - I have this irridescent blob really which is signed and dated 1999 - but thats all I can tell.
I've had it in my collection for a few years since buying @ a bootsale, but I would be intrested in who made this nice blob.
Any help would be greatfully received.
Thanks Carol

Hi there -- just a wild, wild, wild, wild, wild -- Wild guess....but could it say *Hungary* on the bottom??
Can you post a closer, cropped pic of just the writing? Thanks
-
hello Rose.........just thinking outloud really, but if in fact something was made in what we call Hungary, might it not however say Magyar instead. :), or is this me just trying to be too clever.? - from my teenage years of philately I seem to remember that was the word shown on their stamps.
-
Lanmara?
I've searched here and found several references to this Scottish glassmaker, but all the links and images seem to have gone.
-
Thanks everyone & Sue you have solved the mystery again I can now see it reads Lanmara! :hiclp:

This is the only active thing I can find on them - found in Frank's Scotland's Glass site.
http://www.macgillivrays.co.uk/lanmara.html
Sadly, I can find no mention of them at all in "Scotland's Glass; 400 years of Glassmaking" by Shiona Airlie and Brian Blench, just recently published by Cortex Design. :'(

These might help:
Glass artists Paul Brown and Katherine Dearness.

Please note that the phone number given in these is not Lanmara Glass any more, but belongs to a private line.

You've obviously got contacts in cyberspace, Anne! I found those - except for that informative and useful first one!
Names of the glassmakers found! :rah:
-
Nothing in the new Hajdamch either, under Lanmara, Brown or Dearness.

I know we are a little way on in this now, but I put in a bid and just lost out to this piece of glass :

I thought it looked familiar as I have a little orange iridescent cat I bought for a couple of quid ages ago, and could find nothing about the signature on it....in truth, I don't even think it said it was signed in the listing, I just liked the look of it, and I collect cats (glass ones!).
Anyway I had another look at mine and realised it said Lanmara 2002, so I am pleased to have an identity for mine, and will try to put a picture up of it.
So thank you Anne and Sue, now I know who made my orange cat, even though I didn't get the black one.

Here are pictures of my Lanmara 2002 signed orange cat. The iridescence is very subtle, but beautiful.

Interesting post - in 2000 while up in the north of Scotland I saw some lovely iridized glass by Lanmara - all signed and boxed - there were vases and animals and perfume bottles - I bought loads and sold them well on eBay - I also posted a fair amount under David555 on this board along with info about the company and who started and ran it. Maybe that thread is still available - still have pics back on my home pc - will post later.
Thanks Adam

Yes - I was away for six years and couldn't remember my password or details so rejoined last year as adam20.

Very glad you did Adam! I have located some of your David555 threads and very interesting they are too. I am really looking forward to the pictures.
-
As promised some Lanmara pics from many years ago - cat, snail, perfume bottle and paperweight.
