Hello all,
Could anyone tell me if this is a butter dish please? Also anyone know a maker?
It measures approx. 6 inches in diameter.

Yes it's a butter dish and I would say it's probably Czech. I've seen green uranium glass tableware in this pattern
-
There is a display of this style/pattern of glass in the same amber in GlassGallery in the Glass Fairs section > Northen Glass Fair. Those were marked Czechoslovakia. We've also seen it in pink, green here on the board and I have some in blue - I've not seen another butter dish though - bowls and jugs a-plenty though.

Thank you Christine and Anne.
Much appreciated.
I couldn't find this pattern in the glass gallery - am I looking in the right place Anne? The Harrogate pictures??
Many thanks

Hi Hil, sorry I'm misleading you - the pics I was thinking of aren't the same pattern (but they are Czech glass! Blame old age or over work for my failing memory! ;D)
The GlassGallery does have two examples of this pattern though, my bowl here: http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-46 and Paradisetrader's creamer: http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-34 - and I'm sure others have been posted onto the board as well. The problem is finding the earlier discussions as we couldn't ID the maker, just the country of origin (as some pieces are faintly marked.)
Edited to add: Found the original thread about my bowl... 8) http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,2565.0.html

No need for apologies Anne, thank you for taking the time to find the images and thread for me - very interesting.
It seems there were quite a few different pieces made in this design.
So it is still Czech age unknown I guess ;D One for ebay methinks as I don't find it particularly aesthetically pleasing.
Once again thank you

I would say the design originates in the 1930s, particularly as I've seen it in green uranium, but how long it was made for...
-
Thank you Christine,
There is a comport of the same pattern currently listed on Ebay as '70's' - if this is correct I guess they were made for a long while after the design was introduced.

Update re this topic... whilst browsing Pamela's brilliant website I spotted her bowls the same pattern here: http://www.pressglas-pavillon.de/schalen/05159.html and see they are now attributed to Stölzle.

C Stölzle, Hermannshutte, pattern number 19412, 1930s
"Bag it and tag it" ;D ;D
