???????
Just taking guesses here.
first looks like Micheal (or could be Michael)
Next name looks like ??? Redbey, Redby, Playford, Playfred.......???
Could the last word be "Hungary" -- as I am just guessing here. Can we get a few more shots of the signature at some closer angles, or just some variations of it.
Thanks -- all Guesses here (http://serve.mysmiley.net/confused/confused0009.gif)

This looks like a good case for the Talcum powder trick. I think it reads Michael Page then Tolland .
If you look at http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php?topic=35231.new;topicseen#new you will see a couple of postings where I tried to help a user get a better photo of the signature. The problem always with a fornt on shot is that the background colours and pattern tends to confuse the eyes. Best to try to eliminate as much of it as you can. TThe phot from a shallow angle ought to work better as well. Good Luck.

No idea about the signature but the glass was made at Alum Bay.
John
Please don't post in uppercase, information here: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,30896.0.html

Thanks all for your help - I will try your advice to clarify the signature - Alum Bay it is !! Sorry about the upper case will make sure I don't use in future
-
The signature probably reads as "Michael Rayner": http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,13170.msg86389.html#msg86389

Thanks again John
-
Max has/had a 1977 vase signed Michael Rayner, Totland Bay - which deciphers the rest of the signature.
-
Yes it was the Totland that threw may I recognised "Bay" but not "Alum" now I can see it perfectly - Thanks a lot
-
Totland Bay was presumably the name used before the move to the premises in Alum Bay, looks to be about a mile down the road....

Hi cjones, please can you do the talcum powder trick so we can see the signature clearly for those of us (ie me!!) who haven't seen the signature before?
I am very impressed that you have gone from no info to knowing the Artist, and geographical location in less than 24 hours!!
Some of you guys on this board are really awesome. :sun:

I couldn't agree more !!!! I will try to get a better photo of signature in next couple of days.
-
This is as good as I can get - sincere thanks again as it has helped me identify another piece too.
