I recently bought this bowl. It is uranium glass and the three feet are in the shape of 'dolphin-esque' fish, with fins which spread out and merge with the 'waves' which encircle the bowl. The bowl itself is clear and the fish are frosted glass.

Does anyone recognise it and know who the maker might be? Thank you.

Long time no read. ;D You could send it to me for a closer look. It rings bells but I haven't a clue which ones
-
inwald or reich - Leni - you do not see me envy very often, but this time :'( congratulations! :-* I return to you very soon about the maker, but I'm convinced others will be quicker than I am
-
What an absolute beauty, Leni. I have never seen one like it before but it's superb - I wonder what other colours it was made in?
Good to see you back on the board too - you've been quiet for too long! ;)
-
Seconded, stunning, the designer could do with being remembered too.
-
There's a pink version in http://www.siegmar-geiselberger.de/aktuelles/pdf/pk-2004-3w-heinemann-sg-schale-figuren.pdf
Describes it as dolphins and waves, but sadly says the maker is unknown.
Ain't it a beaut!
-
Leni's pics certainly do a better job of showing off the design.
-
Very true.
-
Thank you all for your help and comments.
It's actually quite a difficult piece to photograph, because all the clear glass 'waves' reflect everything around it. Nice effect, but makes it difficult to get a clear picture.
Thanks again.

Hi Guys
Has anyone found a maker for Leni's bowl , as I have a clear glass plate in the same design my second one I sold the first one a few years back

Tony
I believe Inwald was correct

Thanks Roy

:girlcheer:
Inwald confirmed - it's on M. Newhall CD Rudolfova before 1958, page 37 item # 12846
There are also a vase and a shallow plate pictured - never seen
Tony, a photo of your tray would be highly appreciated!
This is the pair, Roy bought and photographed for me - still very grateful for these! http://pressglas-pavillon.de/tafelaufsaetze/09226.html

Thanks very much for reminding me and confirming the ID :hiclp: I've added the info to my pictures, so that I'll remember what it is, hopefully :spls: :pb:

Anne,
Last time I was in Paeroa (probably October) there was a most beautiful bright blue one of these bowls for sale at one of the junk shops.
Unfortunately I had spent all my pocket money!

Hi Guys
Here are some photos of my plate, it is 29.5cm at widest points each way and stands 6cm high also it is 1355kg in weight.
Is Rudolfova the glass factory or a place?
-
I found one at a car boot sale recently in clear glass. Had another one a couple of years ago too but I parted with it
-
Rudolfova was the glass factory, Tony. It was a former Inwald glass factory, at Dubi, founded 1906, and was the main pressed Inwald pressed glass factory, according to Marcus Newhall's book, "Sklo Union Art Before Industry: 20th Century Czech Pressed Glass." Rudolf was the name of the elder of Josef Inwald's two sons, and the works was apparently named after him.
-
Hi Ann
many thanks, Can you still buy Marcus Newhall's book and how much is it?
-
Yes it's on eBay Tony. £30+postage

Hi Meegs and Anne
I was in Paeroa with my wife today Friday 20/01/2012 The blue bowl is still there a real beauty but at $120 I left it there (it is about 20cm in diameter)

Thanks Anne. There is a used copy for auction with 4 days to go, so I have put it on my watch list for now

Tony, I can't remember the name of that shop, but it is a collective of various dealers with a manager so it does make trying to negotiate the price difficult. The bowl is a beauty, and it is a shame that the price is off putting as the longer it sits there the more likely it is to get damaged; as was a fair amount of the glass stock in there when I was last in the shop. Did you go into Akwrights(?) further down the road on the corner? There are several examples of Bagley's Andromeda at NZD450 a pop.
Hope you enjoyed your day.
Cheers

Hi Meegs
The shop is called The Depot. yes we have been going to Akwrights and all the other shops for many years, have had some good buys, lots I would like both for my collection or resale I am also a Licensed Dealer, but the prices.!!
One thing that makes me mad is a nice piece with no description or something ridiculous like "Depression" glass and a crazy price.
-
It's lovely and I'm positively green. But surely those dolphins are inspired by japanese images koi carp? It's quite a common art deco motif.
-
I agree! I started this thread with the title "Pressed Glass Fish Footed Bowl", and then described the fish as 'dolphin-esque', because I had always previously seen similar footed bowls described as 'Diving Dolphins' bowls. But these feet are definitely very fishy! ;D
-
Here is this lovely bowl in blue. I was rather delighted to find this undamaged example this week having resisted the urge to buy the above mentioned one
(... and yes I dyed the roses to match)
Cheers

Well done, Meegs - it's such a splendid design and a most convincing proof for the beauty of pressed glass! :-*
