Title: Olive oil coloured light glass jug
Post by: Anne on March 05, 2006, 08:09:49 PM
Very thin, light-weight jug, with sticker saying Hand Made Made in GDR. Colour is olive oil green. No idea of maker or age. Can anyone suggest who or when please?

age should be easy to establish - between 1950 and 1990  :)  :)  maker is not so easy; the label is not in the Lausitz book so it was probably made elsewhere in the GDR - perhaps in Ilmenau ? Thre may have been other production sites...

Same as Ruth's midget gems - Lauscha too?

Lauscha is in the Lausitz and the label is not in the pretty thorough GDR book on Lausitz glas - so I assumed it was not. However, the (small?) jug may be lampwork - in which case it is most likely from Lauscha. Ruth' s midgets could very well be Lauscha.

Pamela, thank you. I have just noticed the similarity to Ruth's midget gems also.

Ivo, you queried if the jug is small, I measure it at 165mm tall (6.5") and it weighs only 71g. The handle is attached only at the top edge, the base of the handle curls towards but does not actually meet the body of the jug. Thanks also for all your info above.
