Hi folks..i have tried so hard to take a good photo of this label (but failed) i cant make out the top line..across the centre it says "venitian glass company" underneath that it says"traditional hand made murano glass"the top part is bugging me..lol..the label is black with silver and what looks like a boat in the centre, the writing is across this..have added a pic of the seahorse (its huge) in the hope that someone can show me a label the same ??? I have looked in the label section but cant see it..

This item and label might not actually belong in the Murano sections.
A company called "Venetian Glass Company" was started by Franco Toffolo at Blackpool, England in the 1960s. Not sure how long it lasted and I do not have access to a pic of any label he used at that time, so cannot comfirm if this truly answers the question.
A search on the Board for 'Franco Toffolo' will locate a few earlier threads of interest.

Wow, Ejean9 you have something of value there even though it is not Murano!!! Toffolo was a great glass artist from what I understand. I wish I could afford one of his pieces. I am glad your mystery is solved. :rah: What a nice piece. I am green with envy. :mrgreen:

Hi Tam..to be honest i was going to wrap it up..and put it in the loft as my family hate it..they think it is scary ! No idea what ill do with it..i seen one almost identical but with no label a while back..for £20..its gone now !I also had this piece up for sale for ages..then took it off again..lol wonder if i could sneak it back in the cabinet...

Really, your family hates the piece! I guess beauty really is in the eye of the beholder. The same is said for an antique budda head that my mom gave to me years ago that was purchased in Paris. She gave it to me because my grandmother is scared of it. I love it though. Anyway, your Toffolo piece is beautiful. If you ever want to sell I will be more than happy to take it off your hands. It is such an interesting piece indeed. Hopefully, your family will not notice it in the cabinet. :usd:

My family hate all my glass..except for one daughter who has a love for it..the rest say they would flog it in a heartbeat..including my WF glass..i have some beautiful murano pieces that they say they would use as fruit bowls ! I bought some Adam Arranson pieces and they did not like those iether :cry: strange lot mine..

Franco Toffolo also worked at Caithness for a good while, designing and making some amazing and massive pws, he spent a good part of his retirement working up here in Scotland, having the use of the facilities in John Deacon's Studio on Thursdays, where he made a lot of things in "the Scottish Style" of the Ysarts - with his own exhuberant twist, including a whole load of Tulip lamps. Many of these pieces were sold through The Strathearn Gallery in Crieff. I'm lucky enough to have a stunning big sommerso bowl.
Probably one of THE greats in contemporary glassmaking, he is now fully retired and living in England.
