Title: Extensive JE Bang Exhibition Catalogue...
Post by: Pinkspoons on April 27, 2007, 07:23:22 AM
The Glashistorisk Selskab Holbæk (http://www.glashistoriskselskab.dk/) are currently running a huge exhibition of Jacob Bang's glass at the Holmegaard museum, and their website is carrying the catalogue for it. It's amazing to see all this glass gathered together in one place.

It's in .pdf format, and 141 pages long (it's all images; 2-3 per page)

It can be viewed HERE (http://www.glashistoriskselskab.dk/images/stories/JacobBangOgGlasset.pdf)

I thought so too! I'm just printing out a copy (my poor, poor printer).  ;D

WOW!

That is a seriously impressive document...and I only recognise maybe half a dozen of those items so it'll be extremely useful to identify stuff with.  Nic, thank you for posting the link. :)

I try to spread a little Holbæk love wherever I go!  ;D  They're a knowledgeable and incredibly helpful group of folk.

Well, am I bowled over?  Seriously impressive and thanks for bringing it to our (my) attention. There's a kind of wave ribbed vase on page 49 which is a dead ringer for the Whitefriars version !!!  And a lot of evidence of other serious similiarities between Holmegaard/Whitefriars AND some other glass factories too!

Is there any chance of getting hold of a real catalogue Nic?  I am just one of those people who find it easier to absorb the knowledge from paper rather than screen, and my printer is not behaving well in any event!  Emmi

Hi.

I'm not sure if there is a print version - I'll contact the chairman of the society and ask. I suspect it will be internet-only, though, as they're only a voluntary group of enthusiasts and the costs involved in reproducing such a weighty catalogue in any number would probably be too high.

Oh Ok, yes I understand the costs involved, but thanks for trying Nic.  I'll just have to shift my butt and get the printer fixed. Groan! More expense, more time wasted but.....got to do it sometime! Thanks Emmi

I've just saved a copy of the pdf onto my computer so I can look through it when I want.

Would that save a few trees?

oooooooh luffley!  Cheers Nic, as you know my hard-drive packed up but it's a lovely shiny new one now that I'm sure will be overjoyed to have the Bang catalogue on.

Not sure if archiving would be an option, as it would all depend on the link staying the same. I know the site have had a move-around of their site recently - and they may do so again in the future.

Speaking of changing links, could a moderator please change the link in my post to: http://www.glashistoriskselskab.dk/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=55&Itemid=87 and add the information "to reach the catalogue click "her" in the last line of text"

I directly linked to it originally because the rest of the site was under maintenance and unavailable on and off over the last few days.

Incidentally, Holmegaard's site is currently carrying some really beautiful photographs of exhibited pieces, some of which don't make it into the catalogue.

They can be found: HERE (http://www.holmegaard.com/presse/type.asp?iType=193)
