Post by: wiggy131 on May 29, 2009, 02:52:29 PM
Hi,
Can you Id this glass commemorative plate for Queen Mary's Coronation? It is presses glass, but I'm not sure who made it. Can anyone help and also an approx value as I am going to sell.
Best Wishes

I forgot to say it is clear glass, it's just the sun reflecting in the glass!

It's definitely not Bagley (they didn't make pressed glass that early, they were bottle makers) and probably not Sowerby. Doesn't strike me as being Greener either, but I could be wrong about that. Is the picture colour? Transfer or hand painted.

It's also not Mary's coronation, it was George V's coronation. A coronation is a ceremony marking the investiture of a monarch with regal power, specifically involving the placement of a crown upon his or her head, and the presentation of other items of regalia. Mary was a queen consort not a queen regnant.

Hi Vickie,
Just confirming its definitely not Bagley. I did see a similar plate with a picture centre for another monarch which was by Sowerby. Don't have my books here with me, so sorry I can't be more helpful. Good luck with identifying it.
