Post by: pamela on February 12, 2006, 08:17:49 PM
Anne, HERE (http://yobunny.org.uk/gallery1/displayimage.php?pos=-131) you supply a photo of three-legged candlestick holders - see my pink

Rod Crawshaw identified them in his new 'book' as
Hoskins&Rose 1935 - never heard that name

Hoskins Rose was not a glass maker.

Hoskins Rose Co., 5 St Andrew St., Holborn Cross, London: Offices and Showrooms for Glassware. They were undoubtedly agents, wholesalers etc. Possibly handled the usual suspects (Czech, German etc).

Two threads:

and then

I must say those candlesticks have a Rindskopf look to them!

I see that Hoskins Rose registered 786703 through to 786706 on that date. They were just acting as agents on behalf of another company (and I really think it was Rindskopf, but I cannot see that exact pattern!)

I love that Deco style. So flamboyant  :D

Pamela and Glen, I too have three of these 3-footed candle holders, but in clear glass.  I remember that just one of them had some writing impressed underneath, but can't recall what it was - whether it was text or numbers.  I will see if I can dig them out of the garage and have a look.  Its a long time since they saw the light of day and I had all but forgotten about them.  It's a good excuse to use them anyway, they are really pretty, but the pink ones are far nicer.

Pamela, I saw you had the pink 3-legged candlesticks and meant to comment before but was sidetracked (how unusual for me!  ::) ). Mine have no visible markings on them so I was stumped as to origin. I have the tray and the ring holder also, all in clear glass. The only piece missing is the lidded pot.

Ring holder: (RD no _ 86706 (first digit hard to read)
Tray: (no marks visible)

I love this set and would be delighted to know who made it. I have another pot with a Hoskins Rose RD no, which has matching candlesticks as well, but again I have no idea of maker for that either. The pot is similar in style to the one with the 786706 number, but the candlesticks are totally different.

I've been taking pics of my sets as they are now so shall add them to the gallery later. Most of the sets are created from individual pieces, so it's fun trying to figure out what goes with what!

Three-footed candle holder is Czech, Libochovice, pattern number 1471, tray, number 1470, three-footed lidded box, number 1472, lidded box, number 1473, ring-stand, number 1474. All were still being produced at the end of the 1950s.

I think this is an ad for this same pattern in the U.S during the 30's.....

What a great advert! That's for a slightly different pattern still Libochovice but it's the 1951 candleholder rather than the 1471 referred to above.

You can see a photo of my 1951 example on my GTS website here:
http://www.glasstrinketsets.com/cms3/czechoslovakian/libochovice/1950-1954 (http://www.glasstrinketsets.com/cms3/czechoslovakian/libochovice/1950-1954)

and the 1970 series set is shown here:

Thanks Anne! I need to go correct my notes on the ad with the correct pattern number.

I think I'm in need of this book....
