Title: Spade canes Murano?
Post by: karelm on May 10, 2007, 03:52:14 PM
Hi,
I recently saw these canes (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200105428833) that look like a spade in a deck of cards.  I have a hand cooler type weight covered with murrini and some of these included.  I am thinking murano or as a second choice chinese.  Right, almost right or completely wrong???
Thanks and kind regards

My opinion is that these are Chinese.

I agree - Chinese.

But be aware that there are also "Ysart" (early Vasart) card suit canes, so keep an eye open for these. They have either black or red central sections and have a solid white outer casing.

See canes 8 to 11 in this Ysartglass.com page (http://www.ysartglass.com/Vascat/VasPcanes.htm).

And bear in mind that many of these 'Moretti' canes (now Effetre-Moretti) http://www.crloo.com/Products/Lampworking_Glass/Effetre/Effetre_5/effetre_5.html are the ones which are sold on the internet, therefore in theory the weights containing them could be made anywhere!  (Although in practice most you see will indeed be Chinese.)
