Title: Id help please. Small paperweight.
Post by: Nemmie on July 24, 2012, 04:34:09 PM
Picked this up at the weekend as one of my few boot fair buys because it looked appealing even though a little battered. Also not used to seeing these small weights.

Love to know a maker and possible age. Does seem to have some wear to the base.

See Richard More's web site (http://strathearn.smugmug.com/Strathearn-Paperweights/P9-Millefiori-Minature/354583_nfQXTw#!i=14089120&k=ntuyB) for comparison.

As well as the info that Wolf has linked to, the Vasart ones of the same size (and slightly smaller) were also used on bar set items (bottle openers etc.) and as car gear shift handles. See ysartglass.com (http://www.ysartglass.com/Vascat/VasF001.htm) and also Alan Port's site (http://paperweights.com/lassman.htm) for examples.

Is it my imagination or has the top been ground down?

Missed that :(.
So it would be a PP92 (http://strathearn.smugmug.com/Strathearn-Paperweights/PP92-Millefiori-Minature-Top/10551763_SgQbdM#!i=732850594&k=SKHDY) (if Strathearn) - where Richard is not quite sure whether this is actually a production design - or just fixing damage to the top.
