Title: Is this baccarat?? - yes Laurier pattern
Post by: Margi on September 12, 2009, 03:45:58 PM
Hello again everyone today I came across this gorgeous item.  It is of superb quality is quite heavy to the touch even the stopper.  It caught my eye from a stall and so after the touchy feely episode (with the glass of course) I was told it was Baccarat.  Now it isn't signed but after researching I have found out that Baccarat glass was not signed prior to 1939 but would have had a number.  It does have a very fine number of 721 and can only be seen when tipping this item to the light.
It has a very light yellow colour to it and then goes to a beautiful orangy pink colour.  The base is smooth but with a slight concave this is where the 721 is.  The edge of the base has wear marks and the bottom of the bottle has a small tiny chip.  The stopper has a chip and the rim has had a repair to it.
I don't know why but I smelt inside the bottle it reasonably nice but a cross of aftershave/perfume maybe and a little musty at the same time.
I am quite excited about this item so I suppose what I wish to know is  - Is it Baccarat and how old is it and what was it made for.  Please excuse the base picture I could not get a good shot for the want of trying.

It is a long time since I visited the Baccarat museum, but my gut feeling is that this is not Baccarat.
Unfortunately, I cannot tell you what it is! This is one of the most annoying thing about glass identification - it is much easier to say what something is not, than actually to say what it is!

Someone will probably recognise it, and apologies both to you and the Baccarat experts if I'm wrong. ;)

Thank you aa I have a feeling that it is but ofcourse I could also be wrong  ;) may I also add that I did actually purchase this in France not that this has anything to do with the id of this item but I would say it does increase its authentification by a minute percent (hopefully).

Hi

I'm not too expert with the pressed glass Baccarat and I'd hate to disagree with Adam

but it does look very like the Laurier pattern c1916

cheers

I believe that unusual color is called Rose Tiente and to some collectors is more important than the pattern.

Thank you Ron I wasn't quite sure if it was rose teinte or amber teinte it really depends how the light catches it.  This shall be getting sold as much as I love it but we are saving for our wedding  :D

I was lucky enough to come across another Laurier pattern flacon today but unfortunately without the stopper (bouchon).  I also came across these two baccarat flacons which I id'd using Pamela's site as Bambous Tors all in rose teinte again without the stoppers.  If anyone has any stoppers to fit please let me know.
