Title: Fenton's Vaseline Hob Nail!
Post by: turnip45 on April 27, 2009, 08:35:04 PM
Base marked with Fenton's stamp however, is this true Vaseline and does anyone know what year?  Unfortunately, I haven't the light to test the glass with, but it certainly looks like Vaseline to me.
Approximate measurements 14.5 x 5 cm - a very nice weighty item.

Thanks
B

It's not vaseline in the uranium sense of the word if that's what you mean. Opalescent maybe.

Hello,

The type of raised mark that seems to show in the image would indicate that the item was produced in the 1970's. If there is an 8, 9, or 0 below the word Fenton (I can't tell from the image) then it would indicate 1980's, 1990's, or 2000's as the decade of production.

Hope that helps, Craig

One more timeline detail. Since the item is Hobnail, if it has a Fenton logo raised in the underside of the glass the earliest production would be sometime in the 1972-73 range. Before 1972 the raised logo was not used on the Hobnail production.

Opalescent: yes.
Vaseline/uranium/Topaz: no.

Wow, :kissy: thanks to all: not only do I now know the age of the bowl, "8 below the word Fenton then it would indicate 1980's" I also know the type of glass, "Opalescent".  This site never fails to amaze me!!!
