Title: old glass romer

anyone have any idea how old this romer is, or was it made yesterday?

it measures 4" high, the colour of the glass is straw yellow, the stem is hollow with 4 prunts around the sides, all the decoration has been done in enamel and gold gilded, the writing says FORTE NOMEN BORTIUS OMEN havent the foggest what it means

I do not think the coat of arms is English but could be wrong. You could check if your libary has the reference book that illustrates these - but not all do.

Or search on the web under heraldry and you will be able to find names for each element and names for how each is used on the arms. Armed with that you could then try googling for a match or write to the relevant college of arms. Try UK first, then Germany, France and Italy. If you are lucky it will not be a generic family arms but the variant for a particular member of the family and that will give you a very good idea of the date.

Once you have family and date its value can be multiplied several times.

Its latin but is it Fortius, nor Bortius?

Which is literally BY CHANCE NAME PERHAPS OMEN

Heraldic wares were made in quantity (Germany) by Fritz Heckert and by Ehrenfeld during the last gothic revival end 19th century, and I do seem to detect some Ehrenfeld in this one. Coats of arms may be completely fictious,  it does not have to mean anything....

thanks Ivo, the coat of arms, ive found something simlar http://www.tech-sol.net/geneology/coat-of-arms.htm second one down , then go to the forth one down, it looks like both have merged if you get what i mean
