Title: 6 of 6 'old' paperweights. Jellyfish like shape made up of tiny bubbles
Post by: wolkenreb on October 25, 2011, 12:39:12 PM
Here is the 6th paperweight I bought and which is supposed to be pretty old.

I like this one the best.

Any help with age or origin would be most appreciated.  Or just your opinions would be great.

Thanks!

My opinion as you asked for, if I saw this for sale, would be 1960s chinese. The same with the other 5 weights. But somebody else may know differently. Regards Roger.

Does anyone know if 1960's paperweights such as these are collectable?  (I know, almost anything's collectable to someone, but generally speaking.)

The person who sold these said that they had belonged to an 86 year old who's father had told her that, whatever she did, she should hang on to these.  However, I bought them from him on Ebay for 99p!  I just wanted a look really after reading the story about them.

All opinions gratefully received!

I would say, no.  Fairly common style, not signed, and not easily attributable to any one maker.  All this combined severely limits it being collectible, IMHO.

Thanks mildawg.  Much as I suspected.  Maybe the previous owner's father valued them because they had belonged to someone important or something like that, which I will never know.  Might as well hang onto them then!  Cheers!
