Title: Square vase, trailed decoration, "corroded" golden surface...
Post by: rocco on November 11, 2012, 12:45:26 PM
I havn't got the slightest idea even where to start researching this vase (has a "studio glass" look, but no signature or mark anywhere -- so it could be rather recent production I guess)

Square section vase, stands 20 cm tall, irregular rim, base moulded with circular indention and some sort of pontil mark.
Red and clear trails run around, and the surface looks like it was treated with burnt gold foil (sort of a "corroded" look, rough to the touch; sorry, don't know how to explain this properly).

Any comments highly appreciated as usual :)

Thanks,
Michael

A long shot could be Mdina, I had a red vase same shape and size, wobbly rim too: https://picasaweb.google.com/Johnmj100/LaterMdinaGlass#5803176964154957634
That one was signed though and had a polished base.

Thanks a lot, John, I would never have thought of Mdina.
Your vase does look strikingly similar, the bottom finish of mine still worries me a little...
Is recent Mdina production always finished with a ground and polished base?

Michael

OT: Have a look in my Scandinavian gallery, I managed to find two Höglund pieces during the past weeks :)

This ebay listing is interesting, although the photo is dire it shows a square section vase with a Mtarfa label, another possibility it seems.

Your Hoglund People decanter in lilac is particularly nice, I am green.

Thanks a lot John for remembering my vase, I had almost forgotten about it ;D
Pity that the listing doesn't include a pic of the base; but Maltese is becoming more and more likely...

The Höglund people decanter is nice indeed, but I am especially fond of the deep blue colour of the footed vase.
