Title: Shield/crown mark on portrait vase - ID = Josephinenhuette
Post by: art-of-glass on February 15, 2012, 07:05:54 PM
On the base of this vase is a mark of a shield with a crown over it.....any ideas as to what that means?
Never seen a marked one before, was quite chuffed to see that and be great to pin it down to a maker.

Cheers,
Dan

What a lovely item there!    I love it!!

Is that on a piece of plastic attached to the Vase, as not sure by the pic?

Your piece looks really nice IMHO, and I think (IMHO) looks like a quality.  I may be wrong -- but it is also just what people like (in their hearts) also.

Your piece looks very Regal.

See IF I can find something like it, or the label.  No promises, but at least I will try and get this bumped up for some other opinions.  Really pretty !!!         May we have a *base shot of the bottom* ?  Thanks

????????

Might this be something along the same line  HERE (http://www.dargate.com/cat/258/images/10.jpg)  ???

Still looking for the label -- is it Pink, or maybe once was Red and faded?

???

Hi Dan, I've searched through the GlassGallery labels albums here: http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/index.php?cat=6 plus Mike's labels on eBay here: http://members.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewUserPage&userid=butchiedog_gone_it and the old heartland discoveries site and it's not in any of them.... but it looks vaguely familiar.... which is odd as I'd have thought it would have been in one of those sources...

Rose & Anne, thank you both so much for your efforts.
I have, while searching for something else, found out the mark seems to be Josephinenhutte :-)
Mod: Link removed as content changed to inappropriate site

I'd have never have guessed it was made in Poland.

Ooooh that's curious Dan, as I have another mark for Josephinenhutte (Huta Josefina Szkla) here:
LINK (http://www.glasstrinketsets.com/cms15/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=154&Itemid=164) - taken from a catalogue which Marcus and Pamela have. The mark I have is the same design as the mark used by the German Josephinenhutte here: http://glas-musterbuch.de/Josephinenhuette.43.0.html (http://glas-musterbuch.de/Josephinenhuette.43.0.html), with each having the factory name in their own language, on catalogues between the 1920s-1970s.

Pamela has a potted history of the company (in German) here: http://glas-musterbuch.de/Geschichtlicher-Abriss.121.0.html (http://glas-musterbuch.de/Geschichtlicher-Abriss.121.0.html) which Google translate manages to make sense of (mostly!) TRANSLATION (http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&js=n&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&layout=2&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fglas-musterbuch.de%2FGeschichtlicher-Abriss.121.0.html&act=url)

I wonder if your mark relates to the pre-merger company? More company history here: http://www.hutajulia.com/en/for-visitors/history (http://www.hutajulia.com/en/for-visitors/history) (Huta Julia = Josephinenhutte now).

Cheers Anne, that was an interesting read.
Slightly confusing as it suggests the vase could've been made in one of three countries!
Oh well, at least we know who made it.
I deffo need to look more into Josephinenhuette, looks they had made quite a huge array of glass.
The Glasmuseum Passau looks a great place to visit!

Dan

PS - Anne, will take pics of the other Jablonec trinket box I have and fling a tweet at you at some point tomorrow!

You vase is most likely late 19th early/20th century and made at the Silesian factory

They certainly seemed to make all sorts of stuff Dan, especially perfume atomisers, and happily for me, trinket sets!

Look forward to seeing your other trinket box too, thanks! :)
