Title: Seguso? Geode? Murano at least??
Post by: SAIORSE on January 28, 2010, 01:42:25 PM
hi would appreciate opinions on this piece. I believe it is a Seguso and it is called a geode? Am I correct on at least the "geode" part as I was told on another glass board it might not be.  I realise as it has no tags or marks I couldn't say for sure it is a Seguso unless there is a way to positively ID something like this? At a loss here, will anxciouslt await any help

Kathleen

Hi Kathleen, and welcome to the board.

I've changed your HTML links to straight links, as HTML is disabled. You can use BB code to perform the same function, but we'd prefer if you could use the upload attachments facility, because then the thread can be useful to people for years.

Anne's Techie Tip on posting photos (http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,6522.0.html) should help you, especially with resizing photos for posting.

Hi Kathleen, is not a Geode bowl (a geode is like a melon cut in half - is how i would describe it). Love the Green & Amber pieces. I don't think this is a Seguso piece. Many murano companies (and other countries/companies) copied this colour design, and unfortunately, I don't think we can peg this one to any specific maker!

Roughly a third of my collection is Green & Amber pieces, only a few are by Seguso and the rest are from a wide range of other Murano makers, mostly unidentifiable but still definitely by some quality makers! (Maybe one day someone will pop up here with pieces that have labels on them or that have been signed!)

It may not even be Murano. So many countries and people made these simple hot-worked forms that without labels it can be hard to tell

Most of the Murano companies didn't leave that much clear on pieces like this. Companies that did include Fratelli Toso, Cenedese, and Galliano Ferro. I'd like to see better pictures (near a window witha neutral background would help), but I'd lean towards Murano at this moment.
