Title: Pink swirl trinket set – similarities to Baccarat Bambous Tors sets?
Post by: agincourt17 on October 12, 2012, 08:42:01 PM
A pink trinket set with many similarities to the clear or rose-tinted crystal ‘Bambous Tors’ sets shown in the 1916 Baccarat catalogue. Apparently there are no markings or numbers anywhere on the pieces.

The most striking likenesses are in the shape of the stoppered perfume bottles and lidded pots, particularly in the distinctive swirled decoration on the pieces. The small oval tray is also very similar. See:

The oval tray is similar in shape to the 1916 T45 tray, but the pink tray has radial decoration instead of swirls. See:

The T39 candlesticks in the 1916 catalogue (link as above) have several similarities to the pink pair (similar swirled shape of cup and foot), but the stems are basically a baluster shape compared to the twin bulges on the stem of the pink pair.

The pink tray measures 11 x 8.5 inches, and the candlesticks are 8.5 inches tall.

Is this set perhaps a more modern Baccarat set?

Comments, suggestions, or perhaps photos of similar sets to share, please?

I don't think this is a Baccarat set. In my collection of more than 850 glass and crystal ring holders I have several  "look alikes"of the "bambou torsé". When you put them next to each other there are slight differences in models/dimensions and details but above all the glass quality of Baccarat is superior. That is such a striking difference! The Baccarat sets are in clear, yellow, blue, red  and the wellknown red-orange that fades.  At my opinion this is not a Baccarat color.  The similar ones I have are , green , purple, pink/orange, brown/orange "metallic", clear.   Baccarat ring holders are signed in relief "Baccarat Depose". Some items of the set too but not all. The German/Bohemian  are not signed.
The tray doesn't belong at all to the set.

Please have a look at Pamela's Musterbuch at:  Krug Mundt 1906, Müller- Kraft Dresden 1914 (!!), Radeberg 1890 and Walther 1925.
I hope this helps a bit?

Thank you for your erudite opinion, and for the informed musterbuch references, Eugénie.

(Pamela's Musterbuchs are a fantastic reference resource  - once you have some idea of where to start looking).

I think this could be Walther Walzen, the candlestick is shown in the 1933 catalogue.

(I believe there is a variant Walzen candlestick in 1937)

There is also a Walzen tumble up in the 1931 catalogue and lone tumbler on another page.

Just spotted a post from Simba in August 2015 regarding this set with links to the 1904 and 1925 Walther Catalogues, confirming my thoughts in the post above.

Anne & Fred just looking at your mystery set 115 and realised I have the candlestick which I have identified as Walther 'Walzen' pattern 42756 in the 1933 catalogue.... the other pieces appear in the 1925 catalogue

but the candlestick alters by 1933

the only odd piece is the tray ?? The tray looks a bit small could it be this water set tray perhaps....
