This is just great: a water jug and six glasses. The green is uranium and the body is a semi-transparent white (like steamed up clear glass). I wondered if it was Nason. What does anyone else think please?
-
Love it...! seen something similar somewhere ..! out come the books after breakkie .
-
I've seen the pitcher many times, but can't remember who the maker is. I hope you're able to find it in your books, jp. I searched online, but couldn't find it.
-
Still cant find it but sure it is something rather special , i am sure it will come to me .
-
Thanks for looking JP

For some reason the letter B sits in the back of my tiny brain , B Boda Bertil Vallien yes i know thats Skandi
B Barovier the style of handle . The metal or glass mix i have seen in glass from both of these . sorry for the confusion blame a large liquid lunch with no food . :rn: :24: :spls: :pb:

The things that came to my head were Carlo Moretti, Galliano Ferro, and Fratelli Toso. Of course, that doesn't mean that any of them made it. It is not a common pitcher, but there are a few out there. I've always liked them. They are finely worked, even though they don't look serious.
-
I do not know who it is, but saw one on ebay recently with an attribution and I can not find it now.... I also can not remember what the attribution was.... not that I would necessarily believe the attribution... but they may have known....
I really like the set.... the listing had no glasses with it......

Come on folks this one is really bugging me .
-
I saw one of these sets today at the National Glass Fair being sold by Andrew Lineham. He was adamant it was Loetz. It had a £400 plus price tag. Needless to say, I thought I'd manage with just the one set. What does anyone else think.
-
I copied your image and emailed it to the group working on the Bohemian glass website with me.... and got some responses....
This is indeed by Loetz, and quite rare. I located an archived auction listing and in March of this year a set sold on ebay Ireland by a London seller, pitcher and 6 glasses for £920. Same set, same colors. The set was designed by Richard Teschner and is design number 4506 in the Loetz archives. It's design was series II production and appears for the first year in 1908. I am attaching a copy of the design image and hope it can stay.....
What a fabulous find..... :chky: :chky:
I knew I had seen it before, it is just so uncommon I could not remember where.... ;D
Edit in: One of the things I love so dearly about early Bohemian glass is that so many of the colors, designs and shapes were decades ahead of their time... I think this is a super example.....

Thank you very much Craig. :kissy: Think I'll go back to bed for a lie down :chky: :chky: One of those Antiques Roadshow moments I think.
Best move this then please mods.

Hi Christine.... I would love large detailed pics...... It will be a great piece for the website..... Thanks for thinking of me!! I'll assume it came your way for a tad less than the auction result....  I Love it when that happens!!!

Shhh, £25 :pb:
What's your email size limit?
-
You have got to be kidding me........ :hiclp: :hiclp: I am completely jealous......
Good for you..... That is really really really fabulous!!!! It just never ceases to amaze me that things like that can still happen..... boot sale or ???
Even as a modern piece of glass it is worth more than that for decorative purposes alone!!!!
Email wise I think the limit may be around 10 megs or something..... I also have a 20 meg connection, so file size is not really a concern....
Thanks...

congratz Chris  :hiclp: :hiclp:

I have just discovered it's marked Made in Czechoslovakia, having Googled and seen the 1994 Christie's auction description
Teschner seems to have also been a famous puppeteer http://www.khm.at/en/austrian-theatre-museum/collections/puppet-theatre-teschners-figurenspiel-puppet-and-paper-theatre/
painter, sculptor...

Norty boy JP
My brain cell does grind slowly at times. Have just realised the manufacture date must post-date the design date by at least 10 years because of the marking.
-
I am not sure how long the design was used, but yes, your mark would indicate at least 1919. Is it possible to get an image of the stamp on the underside. I would really love to see it..... Is it in a rectangle? Oval? Nothing?
Loetz pieces with a "made in" provenance mark are a little unusual..... generally they merely state "Czecho slovokia" on two lines, either in a square or an oval.
Thanks, Craig
-
The mark is in a circle and very sloppily applied. The made is at the top in that sort of angular font that kind of extends to match the curve while the bottom stays horizontal; the in is in the middle; and Czechoslovakia runs round the bottom. Don't know whether I'll be able to get a pic.
-
I hope you can... I have never seen that on a Loetz piece.....
-
I'll try. Don't have much time for photos over the next couple of weeks, so prod me via FB, at the end of the month if I haven't sent you anything.

:hiclp: :hiclp: :hiclp:
Just found the thread.
Congratulations Christine.
:P

I needed to correct a date error from earlier. I stated that the 4506 design by Teschner appeared for the first time in 1908, and it was actually in 1907.
I have also added another design by him from the same year

Thanks Craig, best start a dinosaur hunt as well then!
-
Did you get anywhere withe the Made in Czechoslovakia anomaly? Is the mark like 6407 in Hartmann an unknown mark that just happens to match a c1920 Kralik label (6336) that has a large capital L in the centre and the in moved next to the made. Could that suggest Kralik bought the design or made it for Lötz after WW1?
