Title: Blacksheep glass studio BSG
Post by: jonchellycain on January 14, 2013, 10:20:15 AM
Hi all
I have a little information about a lesser known factory Blacksheep Glass, San Diego, California, which I thought I would share.
I have a piece which is believed to be an early paperweight from them and was finding it difficult to get information. After speaking to glass artist James stone (http://www.stoneandglass.com/), he gave me this information.

"Black Sheep Glass was started by Leslie Wilton, the wife of Paul Wilton who makes premix burners for gloryholes and furnaces. Leslie was one of the very few women who was involved in the second wave of contemporary American Art Glass artists. As you may know, in the beginning there were very few women glass artists allowed into the inner circles of the new field. She was a very prolific and creative glass artist. Someplace around the year 2000 she sold her business to one of her employees named Scott Kempton. He still owns the business but is presently not fired up or making any pieces for Blacksheep. Occasionally Scott jumps in as an instructor in my studio. I speak to him on a fairly regular bases." James Stone

My weight is marked BSG with something written underneath which I have so far been unable to make out. I have seen other pieces marked Blacksheep, Blacksheep glass and with the BSG mark
thanks
michelle

Hi Michelle :) thanks for sharing that information.  Very interesting particularly the studio glass movement information.  It's not a name I've come across before so something new to investigate.

Thanks flying free
found it really difficult to find much whilst researching. Some of their more modern weights are very pretty. There are a couple on ebay but its better to search ebay.com worldwide to find them
heres a couple that ive managed to find elsewhere (sorry if the links disappear)
