Title: Stevens and Williams black enamel decanter
Post by: JOK on August 01, 2012, 07:40:14 PM
Here is quite a small liqueur decanter (22.5cm tall) with black enamel decoration to some of the cuts and a black glass foot. It is signed with the SW logo. I was wondering if anyone could identify the designer or the date. I don't know when Stevens and Williams started doing black glass, but I know that Keith Murray designed various decanters with black glass and enamel in the mid 30s. This seems a bit traditional for Keith Murray and doesn't have his facsimile signature, but he did do some traditional designs. Any thoughts or info would be appreciated.

Hi JOK,

This design is not in the Keith Murray Description Book, so I'd be happy in saying that its purely S&W production.

Couldn't say when they introduced the use of black glass and black enamelling, and I doubt anyone else could - apart from perhaps Charles Hajdamach who has done research into S&W production.
