Title: Fish and Flowers
Post by: Lily of the Valley on August 22, 2006, 09:42:28 PM
Here are two paperweights, both Murano (I believe), yet quite different from one another.  I would appreciate any information as to maker, age, etc.

All the best ..... Lily

Yes, both are Murano. The fish weight is the first I've ever seen like it. I would really love to own it. The latticino cushion over which the fish "swims" is typical Murano. Of course, there's almost a label that confirms Murano. I believe the Venetian company is Avem - that's its label. The weight is circa 1960s or 1970s.

The more modern millefiori weight is interesting; the canes are a little bit different from the standard, chalkier, colorful canes usually seen in millefiori Muranos. Peg it around mid-1990s or later.

The flowers in the second weight definitely look like 3Fiori to me   :D

Thank you, THX1138 and Leni, for your input.  I readily admit to being a paperweight amateur so information generously shared by others is very much appreciated.

The fish weight is relatively new to me.  Believe it or not, it was a BIN on Ebay!  I had been searching for a fish and this was "love at first sight".:D

The little flower weight is prettier than the pixs allow--brighter, with nuances of color the pixs don't adequately reveal.  What is 3Fiori please?

All the best .... Lily

What is 3Fiori please?

It was a Murano glass house, sadly - like so many - now closed.

Very well done!

Mark,

If you look at the Sticky post in each forum there is a link to a program called Irfanview (http://www.irfanview.com) that allows any image to be reduced in size.

If you need to now how to do this, then visit my tutorial on http://www.glassyeye.com

Good news: I now have an inkling as to how to use Irfanview  :D
Bad news: I cut the size of the pics in half Twice but they still won't upload onto yobunny   :?

The only comment is to ensure the filesize is below the 200KB (kilobyte) limit. You should save images for use on the web using JPEG compression and after pressing 'S' to save, choose 'JPG - JPEG Files' as the file type and ensure you have the box ticked for 'Show options dialog'.

With the options box, move the slider to around '80'. You can also tick the box for 'Save as progressive JPEG' but this isn't critical.

If this doesn't work I'll alert Anne, unless she's already seen this.

Mark, see the notice in the Cafe... we have a server problem with GlassGallery - working on it as I type (multi-tasking here!) ;)  GlassGallery will be back as soon as we get the server problem sorted.
