Title: Advice on rarer Dartington paperweights
Post by: skegby73 on October 08, 2007, 07:13:02 PM

I have in my possession a 1980 Dartington "Dodo" paperweight, but it is out of the ordinary in that it is etched on the bottom with "No. 1".  (I believe they were issued as a limited edition of 5,000 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the extinction of the poor bird).

I have been offered £50 for it by a family member but I'm rather nervous about either over (or under!) charging them.

I know Dartington paperweights don't usually tend to make more than £10, but is it any different for the most desirable numbered?

Does anyone have experience of other low numbered Dartington paperweights exchanging hands and their respective values?  I know there were other limited edition paperweights issued by Dartington in the late 1970s and early 1980s which may act as a good comparison.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

No 1002 did not sell on eBay at 4.99... probably get the best price in auction as No.1's do not appear that often. It does not mean that it was the first weight produced in an edition, just numbered as such.
