Hi,
Amongst my finds today were these two pieces. As you'll probably guess, pressed glass isn't my forte, but hopefully I'm learning
Firstly, is a yellowy / orange comport (or compote?) with orange rim.
There are six panels, of three floral designs, each one repeated twice.

The colour looks dull in the photo, but in sunlight it really sings.
[edit: more photos posted below]
Second, a pink glass plate, floral design, very low relief on the underside.

I suspect this may be what is generally referred to as "depression glass" but I'm clueless as to manufacturer, let alone design.
Many thanks for any help!

Your plate is Royal Lace by Hazel Atlas Glass Company, USA, 1934-1941. Not uncommon in the UK in pink and uraniun green. And yes its's genuine Depression glass. No idea about the compote/rt (either spelling is OK)

Hi robbo,
your comport should be Sweden - Strombergshyttan, Smaland

Christine and Pamela,
Many thanks for your fast id's - possibly the quickest in the history of the GMB! 8)
I've found this page for Royal Lace which suggests production 1934-41.

Pamela,
I'll take some more photos of the comport because there are some differences from the one on your site, which aren't visible in my photo - yours looks so much more refined than mine.

that will be fine, robbo,
but still I am quite sure it is this Swedish as presumed. Perhaps the photos of mine promise a lot more than the glass obviously is - in fact mine is much more relative to American depression texture than 'European pseudo cut' :D
-
Robbo's right. There are several differences in the two compotes - the stem for instance and the pattern. They almost look like copies from different companies

Here are some more photos of the comport:
Foot Detail (http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-2655)
Bowl & Rim (http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-2654)
Top View (http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-2656)
Christine, as you say, the stem looks different. Also, the circle of "petals" in the centre of the bowl from the top view look proportionately smaller.
I neglected to mention the height - it's approx. 12cm. Could the slight differences be because this one is a smaller version?

time for me to finally photograph the small white one I have got - I did not compare so thoroughly so far - sorry for that! my pink one is huge, height at least is 20 or more... I'll return to this :?
-
Thanks Pamela -
I think my first photo was less clear than the newer ones!
Do you still think the probability is for Strombergshyttan?
Many thanks,
robbo

Hi robbo, no further photos taken so far of mines, sorry, but had an intense look at both of them and like to stick to Strombergshyttan
the bowl may not have been firepolished due to its 'flat' design (engraving of the mould), the stem however could have resisted a heavy fire polishing and that is what yours and mine show - JMHO yours perhaps a little more, mine a little less, but there are still visible the main decorations of halved pearls around
 :?: NO
:? :?: NO
 :?: NO
twisted? yes
-
Hi Pamela,
Sorry for the delay in replying, I've been away.
Yes, the knop of the stem looks fire-polished. I think maybe the rim is slightly firepolished too, but, as you say, not the decorated part of the bowl.
I'm very pleased to have a piece of Scandinavian pressed glass! :D

Nice find Tigerchips
It's quite surprising how bright the colours are!
-
Thanks, it's ideal for red wine me thinks.
-
Anthony, how about a photo from the top please? I'd like to verify whether star base or not - thank you!
nice find BTW
I might also recall a thread regarding the colour of yours - Bernard? Marcus?
wasn't it a chemical heat resistance :?:
-
Here it is, warning, bright image alert!
http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/albums/userpics/10011/Picture_2078.jpg
It has a ground or polished flat ring around the bottom of the base.

Definitely looks the same as mine mould-wise. The ground base is the same too.

Together with Pressglas-Korrespondenz 2006-4 we have received some pattern books which light a further new light on that footed bowl! It may be also Schreiber + Neffen Wien
Ivo, which is your instant feeling?
-
robbo, your top view of 25th July is not Schreiber + Neffen, Wien - so I stick to Sweden of yours so far :)
