Have just noticed that the yellow one has a ribbed stem that differs to those in David's book, the green one looks like one of the copies :huh:

The ribbed effect on the stem of the yellow one is the same as is used for the top-knob bit on the glass lids of the pickle/jam tall pots.

No, those are both genuine Spiderweb. This was going to be one of the revelations in Chance Additions. Now an ex-revelation ;D
Feel the inside of the bowls and you should detect the 12 vertical segments, which oppose the horizontal ribs on the outside. The copies are the other way round and, I suspect, were only ever made in clear.

This occurred because at some stage the plunger was changed. I do have examples of both stems, but not of the 18-seg inner, so that's another interesting development. The outer mould must also have been changed at some stage, so probably Chance was just tweaking the design as it went along (moulds, even cast-iron ones, did not last for ever). The other point is that the sundae glass is not one of the commoner shapes so there are not many examples to compare - I have green-, blue-banded and clear examples.

Forgot the clear crinkle-banded ones I have as well (this is not an all clear one)

Just counted the seg's on my other sundae dishes,only the pale green and clear have the 18 inner seg's,next time I'm out I'll have to start counting when I see one,probably get some funny looks :spls:

The way to distinguish the copy and true Spiderweb is whether it has horizontal ribs on the outside, and vertical segments on the inside. But the stems are also different in appearance - a Spiderweb stem goes from base to cup without a break.
