Thanks Chris! I am not sure how I truncated that one! LOL
He is a bit nice isn't he... I wish I knew who the sig was...
-
Hi
I can tell you who made this weight - it was Pardip Sodera who used to call himself Obsidian Glass. I knew him quite well until he moved down to the Swindon area
-
thank you! That's interesting, I wonder if he is still in business? It is a really nicely made weight, well carved.
-
Hi Lynne
Pardeep Sodera used to work in Hungerford near Newbury around 2000.
I don't know where he is now or if he is still making these weights, but
I have one dated 2004.
Incidently, they are not carved as you say, but sandblasted. A resist such
as PVA glue is painted onto the iridised blank in the shape of the design (dragonfly)
Then when the resist is dry the weight is sandblasted - this removes about
1/2 mm of glass from everywhere other than the area covered in the resist.
The resist is then cleaned off leaving the iridised design in relief
Best regards

Oh thanks Derek, I'll amend the description and link to here.
-
He did very nice cat weights also .jp
-
Hi John
Yes he had loads of different designs - I have a frog and a butterfly weight by him. He changed the colour of the iridescence to suit the subject. The frog is green !
Best regards

Lynne, yours is so pretty.....butterflies and dragonflies and my favoutire insect, and I am already suffering seller's remorse for selling my Murano Butterfly collection! I wanted the money to buy something else!

Hi Rosie

Hey Derek, thanks for that :kissy: .....I think I can feel a new 'collecting bug' starting......I have never seen this type of glass before......it is really very beautiful.

Hi Rosie
Here are another two artists to look out for :
Joye Colbeck and Margaret Burke.
Both use similar techniques

I don't need any encouragement to start a new glass collection Derek but these do look right up my street.
