Hi addg,

I think I may recognise your "name"! In which case, I suspect it will be quite difficult to track down this "M B" signature as I am sure you tried lots of places for information :D

That cane is very interesting, and I think trying for an Id in the Murano forum was a good idea. It looks a bit odd being so large and distinct amongst all those cog canes.

Sorry, I can't help with it. What is the "mark" between the "M" and "B"? I cannot quite make it out, but it looks a bit like a Chess Pawn!

Is the weight perhaps of the regular early or mid-20th century Fratelli Toso type (or at least using those type of canes)?

It could well be an ampersand between = M & B

The mark between the M and the B is as indistinct in real life as it is in the image. And Yes, Kev I am the signature cane person, deperately trying to identify it for the next edition of the book. The canes and construction are clearly second half of 20th century and I would put them in the...1969 time frame.

The cane is made of white over blue and then etched through to make the initials or that at least is how it looks seeing as how the back side of the cane is not viewable. I have seen one other weight just like this on ebay with the same surface canes and same type of signature cane also with that little doodle between the letters.

If the doodle thing is an &, then it may not be a signature cane at all but maybe some type of commemorative such as a marriage between M and B in 1969.

That makes a lot of sense.
I would lean to something along those lines, instead of a makers signature cane.

The original tinypic image has gone (it was from 2006!). If original poster still has a copy of the photo could it be added back as a reply below please, or this topic has very little use. Ta! :)
