Title: Etling glass vase
Post by: thedecoguy on August 31, 2004, 03:38:08 PM
Hello
I wonder if you could help. I have recently acquired an Etling Vase( geometric shape and etching) with a moulded name of `TATEOS`on it. I have searched for information but to no avail, can you help?
                          Yours gratefully

Apparently:
Very short period of activity, as Etlings closed somewhere during the WWII years. Etling used same designers as Goldscheider. I think this is a designer of Eastern European origin, possibly with Turkish ancestry, so probably from Hungary.  Can't advise on value, but it may be both scarce, and highly sought after by French deco collectors.

There used to be a lot of Etling around in the 80's and it was quite popular in the UK then

The 4 main designers were Genevieve Granger- Sculptor, Lucille Sevin - Industrial Designer, Geza Hiez- Hungarian Sculptor & Georges Beal - both.

Another glass manufacturer also appeared in contemporary articles with Etling , Lalique & Sabino was Hunabelle. This firm  also did not survive the war. He became a Film Director.

Hi, I've an Etling Vase, not opalescence but ice colour, bought in 70ies in France with the name Tateos on the base. I've not at the moment a photo.
I know very little about Etling, but it was included in the Catalogue of an Opalescent show that took place in Bruxelles in 1984.
ciao Francesco

Glass Message Board discussions never die! ;D Ten years on here are images of two Etling vases signed 'Tateos'. Since these designs are quite different, surely this must refer to the designer, just as we have with other Etling designers, such as Beal and Sevin. But I don't know.
