Title: Mandruzzato Glass pigeon
Post by: carolglass on December 08, 2007, 11:29:07 PM
Hi from New Zealand, I have a query on the rather fat pigeon I have purchased-What is the surface treatment, it appears to be brown on the head and a gold coloured thin covering around the neck, with a slightly rough, spotty kind of lumpy white texture over the remaining. Any ideas??  Anita-still no luck with the link you kindly posted-very frustrating!! Thanks Carolglass

Very cool!!!

Scandinavian style, sommerso with fasce (strips) and a corroso type finish. Very well done, Probably Italian with a very interesting corroso (acid) finish I don't know the word for...

I used to raise pigeons and know they are very popular in Italy.

A really nice piece!

Another thing... the bird is probably worth more than you think... and for a maker... if I had to guess. With that finish. Cenedese.

Interested to hear what others think.

Nice bird,
I have a similar styled bird signed Ed Langil (i think- hard to read)

Your bird could be by the same maker.

Hi guys, the pigeon had been identified via Anita as a Madruzzato piece, I was just after a bit of information re the surface treatment. Didn't cost that much but I like the item enough to bid and purchase;D

Hi, carolglass. I found the pigeon and am resurrecting it. At this time, I confused the VAM table with the VM table of numbers. So the pigeon is not Mandruzzato. 038 is an interesting number. I have seen it on a few Gambaro & Poggi pieces. (I have also seen 039 on their pieces, so I've wondered if they had two numbers.) I had totally forgotten this bird from years back. It is good to see it again with a bit more information. As far as I know, Mandruzzato didn't do any animals -- at least not any I've seen. I think your bird is a scavo with gold bird by Mario Gambaro.

  Anita- you are a star- information as to correct provenance is always a bonus and I will save this thread to amend my records once I escape from exile in Australia. Happy New Year to one and all.
regards Carol
P.S could a kindly moderator change the thread title??

Very interesting bird indeed!  I have seen Mario do this type of work and have admired it very much.  Just a simply gorgeous piece.

It is pretty. The VM number is definitely Gambaro & Poggi. I still wonder why they had two numbers.

I love it , i have a collection of very good Italian birds, that one would go at the front with my very large and stunning Cenedese scavo piece . Finished with the wine and onto the Wodka now .
