:oNice, I hope you won it!  Anything that comes in that nice of a box is worth more that what it auctioned for.  It really adds to the piece with the box and paperwork.  I am very suprised that it went for that price and not wayyyyy higher.

I was examing some other pieces with Archimede Seguso signatures and they all pretty much look a like to me so I am wondering if it is by the same person, so chances are likely it was Seguso who signed.  I do not know 100% if in fact it was himself who signed his pieces.  I hope someone else knows for sure.

eJean:

Hard to know. It's not like his signature from the 50's or from the 60's.I   But it had changed between those dates. I believe that he signed his exhibition pieces, but not the production pieces.

I'd guess not his signature. I don't think it makes much difference , though.

Congratulations, Ejean9!!!! :hiclp:  So glad you won it as it should only go to a collector. I do think it is a real piece.  David is right it doesn't matter who actually signed the signature but what it is and all the contents with it is what is going to make it valuable.  Also, check out Fossilfy's label library and look at the signed Archimede Seguso egg.  The two signatures look similar to me.  Hey I don't blame you for snagging it at that great price!  I would have too.  It is certainly a fine example of his work.  I say great find!!!

That was a real find--congratulations. It must be very unusual to get the original box, old sticker, and even the pamphlet with such a fine piece. Enjoy!

Very impressive to get the full thing and I assume it will be in mint condition.

I am interested in seeing the label as it looks a little different to the normal scalloped label. Any chance of loading it here when you get it?

Well as you are feeling a little 'high' (totally understandable) how about a couple of photo's of the bowl sans the box as well?

The little devil jealousy is biting my backside. >:D

Hi ejean,

Your pics are great!  It is so nice to see a fine example of Archimede Seguso's work with everything included.  Does the leaflet have a date mentioned by chance?   It certainly is wonderful to see everything together and the bowl it's self is magnificent!  I just adore the way the gold gets really intense around the edges.  I am so glad a collector bought it and not someone who doesn't have a clue as to what it is.  I know you will take good care of it.  Congratulations and well done!!   ;D

The leaflet has no date that i can see, the only "time"reference i can see on it is in reference to "Gino and Antonio Seguso, the company has been among the top glass blowing enterprises of the world for over 50 years" ..dont know if that helps..the bowl is sooo stunning..i am blown away by how fab it is in real life !..I am wondering if it was a commissoned piece due to the box ? or perhaps a wedding gift long forgotton (sigh) i am finding it hard to see it as an "older" piece due to how new the whole package looks (bar a slight musty smell) ! I doubt this bowl was ever on display..

Hi:

This is a lovely piece of glass, simple, elegant, and yet completely opulent. The label, according to Ricke, 'Murano Glass' and Pina 'Archimede Seguso,' started to be used in the 1980's.

Congratulations!

David

Thanks David..i do love this piece...now my question is,do i display it in the box ? or out..and put the box away ?

Simple for me: Do I collect glass or boxes? I'd keep the box but the glass is the focus.  But I also know different people have different tastes.

Yes, David is correct.  According to Murano Magic Antonio (Gino's son) began working for the firm in 1985.

Interesting stuff.

This is a little off topic but I ran into an interesting article earlier this year about Seguso Vetri d'Arte and Viro Seguso buying back the Seguso Vetri d'Arte just in time for SVA's 75th anniversary.   I thought I would share.   Reading about the Seguso family in Murano Magic reminded me of this article.

Here it is: http://www.tablewaretoday.com/Seguso-A.htm

That is gorgeous, elegant and understated, just how I like it. Particularly like the sticker in an indentation.

If you want to capture the gold effect (I am not asking btw) then you can photo it against a black background and it should show it up. Not necessary as it is perfect.

I agree with David put the box somewhere safe and dry and show the glass.

Well done great buy.

Ohhhh, just like the motion sensor light beams, only they make noise when you step on them (oh, I think that makes them the same as the motion sensor light beams)  :24: :24: :24:

Jean, your bowl is so lovely ..... gorgeous to behold.  The words "simple, elegant, and understated" say it all.  The first word that popped into my mind was "ethereal".  It's wonderful to find a beautiful work of art that takes your breath away and makes your heart beat a little faster -- all the more so when the cost has been in your favor.  I think we all celebrate such success (even if we turn a bit green ).  I bet you still stop to just gaze at your beautiful piece.  By the way, I know all about those "motion senors"! ;D

Enjoy .... Lily :)

(I get a bit carried away with my words, but I truly do mean them.)
