I have an extensive collection as to what looks like production Glassware (and also hand made glassware) from Hadeland. I inherited this collection from my mother when she passed 2 years ago (I am Lars Fletre's grandson).
I will be posting pictures later tonight of this collection if I receive any posts / messages..... (I am trying to appraise the collection for Insurance purposes and also, to gain more knowledge of my grandfather's contribution to Hadeland design and in their catalogue). This forom came up in my google search for more information on his time at Hadeland, and based on a post by the member "Alexander" that popped up in that search, it would appear I have come to the right place.

And thank you for your post here and also on the other thread. I can't help with your quest but I am sure Alexander still posts and hopefully will see your addition to the other thread automatically and be able to help you more.
We would love to see some of your collection (or indeed all of it :) ) if you are willing to share.
Have you also tried the 'search' button top left of this screen next to Rules? If you put Hadeland in there may be information in other threads that comes up.

Thanks. When I get home tonight, I'll post the pics (there are quite a few of them). I haven't taken pictures of individual pieces yet, but I can if the need arises.
As for searching for Hadeland, I'll be doing that tonight (most likely tho, there won't be any that mention my grandfather as those would have shown up in the google 'results" pages as well).
Given I have no clue what price to give the Insurance company (to ensure I have all bases covered)... and I suspect I probably estimated on the low side... it will be interesting to see the response to these posts.
And given I am helping my Aunt document the extensive history of my Grandfather (he was a Wood Carver / Artist / Poet as well), anything I can glean will be helpful... and appreciated.

You need to use the attach facility on the board, as outside picture hosting does not work (links are OK but not desirable). Resize your pictures (high res) so that the longest side is about 700 pixels and you should be OK. You can attach four pictures per post. If you need more reply to yourself.
(You are unlikely to get valuations, as we are not professionals and comebacks could be nasty, though you might get an idea of scarcity. Valuations are just too subjective)

The file attachment tool is pretty limited (so I was trying the external forum img structure), didn't work... so I had to reduce the size of the pic files. I am not expecting miracles, just looking at a start off point and going from there.

If you resize so the longest size is 700 pixels your pictures should blow up once clicked on. If you see under your pics where it says 200x300? mine say for example 400x600 and mine increase to a much larger size on the screen once clicked on which makes them visible.

Hi Amarine, your collection is so beautiful and delicate......and I have been entranced by your Grandfather's amazing woodcut of glassblowers......I collect glass pieces depicting glassblowers............just missed one last night :(
We had some glass plates here on the GMB that had very similar styles of engravings to your Grandfathers woodcut, and I wonder if anyone here on the GMB can remember who posted it and if they were Hadeland pieces.
I have a full day today, but if no one comes up with an answer, I will have a look this evening and see if I can find the link and see if there is a correlation.
Do you have any Hadeland glass animals or birds at all? :)

Do have a look at them before the eBay link vanishes.
The style is so like your Grandfather's woodcut, (though I realise they are not his work), your photo jogged my memory of these plates.
However, I don't want to distract from your wonderful collection. :)

I can send the pics to you via email (so they can be sized accordingly). I normally can resize, but I just replaced my laptop and need to download a copy of gimp and then install it (I wasn't on planning to do that until this weekend). I can take closer pics of the heavy glassware. One glass have my grandfather's initials on it (L.F.) and some of the heavy pieces do have engraved animals on them (which I can take closeup's of).
As you can tell, the collection is extensive (enough to fill that cabinet). I also have busts of relatives that he carved including a tall full body wood statue of my grandmother (his muse and fellow intellectual), some more woodcuts, and other artwork he did.

Yes, I have both animals AND birds. I have forwarded the pics to anne for help in sizing them for mass consumption. The woodcut is a masterpiece (if I do say so myself). Very intricate.......

Thanks Anne and Amrine i have been collecting Hadeland a very long time it is nice to see some earlyish pieces and very different to the run of the mill . I have a good small book on Hadeland but my Norwegian is limited there are some early pieces in it , must look it out .

Information on Hadeland’s freelance designers is unfortunately sketchy. Most of those hired to do decorative work were sculptors, like Fletre. The glass design was more of a sideline not given much attention by art historians, for whom it’s all about the sculptures.
Speaking Norwegian doesn’t help much either, as there is little to be found about Fletre’s glass designs anywhere here. Even the Norwegian Artists Encyclopedia offers little.
During his first ten years in the US, Fletre received an extensive artist’s training in Chicago, before returning to Norway in 1933. He worked for Hadeland 1941-50, creating designs for the new sandblasting and deep etching techniques being developed there by the pioneering Ståle Kyllingstad. Some of Fletre’s designs became quite popular, and remained in the catalogue long after his departure from Hadeland. After returning to Chicago in 1954, he only visited Norway briefly. He died in Oslo, however, having come there to work on a commision for a sculpture.
I have a couple of his pieces. They are not expensive; a first class FLC vase would set you back $200 at most.

This is turning out to be such an informative thread.....thank you everybody....I love Hadeland Glass and although I have nothing as delicate and exotic as Amarine's, nevertheless I love and treasure the pieces I do have, and will continue to collect Hadeland glass.

Mbmb, my grandfather went to the Chicago Art Institute (it was while he was here in the US that he met my grandmother). He went back to Norway and married.... and both lived in Voss for a time (he is originally from Voss). His time at Hadeland we have some basic information on (I have extensive documentation of all of his artwork that was put together by my grandmother including timelines regarding commissioned pieces), but I am trying to discern what others thought of his contribution to Hadeland and where that contribution resides in the minds of collectors. I am also looking to see what designs he did (is there a catalouge?), what of my collection is his design and what isn't.... and what the basic insurance value may be on my pieces. I know I am asking a lot, but since the person at Hadeland presently isn't reponding to my emails (curiously so).... I have little other options.
by the way, can you post a pic of your 2 pieces when you get a chance?

Alas, you’re not alone in finding Hadeland unresponsive; they no longer have a full-time curator, and time- and work-consuming requests have low priority. Unfortunately, Hadeland is also where the answers to your questions lie. I suggest you try again, this time as high up in the Hadeland food chain as possible.
There is not a bustling market for Lars Fletre glass, or indeed for any of the free-lance designers of his time. He and others are sadly forgotten, not least because they «only» designed the decor to vase and bowl shapes designed by Hadeland’s regular designers. (He is listed as designer of one decanter in 1947, named «Greve» - meaning «Count».)
Catalogues of the time is of no help either, as they show the different models and designs, but do not list the designers’ names; that only came with the art glass of the 50s and 60s. The value of Fletre’s pieces is thus next to impossible to set. Having said that: from $50 to $200, for the ordinary to the absolutely extraordinary stuff.
It turned out I had three Fletre pieces in storage, posted below.
