Title: Help with Orrefors numbering system
Post by: Diva1 on January 02, 2012, 04:58:41 PM
Anyone know where to begin here?
This is a gorgeous vintage etched Orrefors vase.
Happy New Year and thank you for your help!

Hi it's me again - here's a photo of the vase - it is clear - any color you see is a reflection from other items in the room.
I am told it is from the 1940's.....?  It is in amazing condition.  So beautiful.

Engraving topic seems to be the conversion of Paul on the road to Damascus.  What a nice piece.  The S = John Selbing the designer.  2835 is the glass pattern as far as I know.  The 1803 may be an engraving design number(not sure).  The C4 = 1956, I suspect - the year it was made presumably.  The RP = Rune Pettersson the engraver.

All of the above is based on the info on Page s 136/7 of the ""Orrefors - the Swedish Glassplant" by Ann Marie Herlitz-Gezelius.

Ross...thank you so kindly for your information.
Is there any indication as to the value of such a piece?
My curiosity is getting the better of me.
What a beautiful image ...and what it represents!

Diva I collect and rarely sell anything so I would have no Idea of its value.  I usually say to people who ask me of my own collection - it is worth what someone else is willing to pay for it OR I am willing to sell it for.

By the way.  Photographing clear glass seems to go better aginast plain background.  White background will allow the true colour to show best, but dark background tends to show up engraving best.  Many people stuff are dark serviette in the vase and that tends to show the engraving well so long as the inner material is kept smooth so the eye ios not distracted by wrinkles/patterns.

Thanks again, Ross.  I agree with your philosophy about worth.
I was mainly wondering if there were any price guides out there for this sort of thing.
Happy New Year and thank you again!

Interesting - which letter in this is the "G"?  The second to last?  Is the last letter a "C"?
Thanks so much again!

it's ORREFORS G .....

The vase it self is designed by Sven Palmqvist in 1944. Engraving by Simon Gate.
