this vase is about 9.5" (24cm) tall, 8" (20cm) at widest point. long, slim neck that flares at the rim and a wide, squat bulbous body. it's quite heavy (over 4lbs). the satin finish is very, very smooth, not at all grainy feeling and is on the inside as well as the outside. it's semi-opaque; the light shines nicely through the glass. the bottom has a large, finely ground and polished, inverted pontil: 3" (7.5cm) diameter "dimple" and 6" (15cm) diameter ground and polished area on the base. does anyone have any ideas as to a possible maker or age? even a guess at the region would be helpful as i can't seem to find a match for this shape anywhere.

I hesitate to throw in my comment since the more I see on this site, the more I realise how little I know. However............ Bagley Glass might be a starting point, since the rose pink colour in the photos and the smooth texture you describe remind me of the Bagley posy bowls or bloom rings that I have, dating from 1930s or 40s I think.
I'm sure someone on the site will have better idea if they made vases in this shape or who else was making similar styles.

i looked at tons of Bagley glass after your suggestion but everything i found was pressed; is all Bagley glass pressed? i am fairly certain that my vase is blown. looking for Bagley also led me to look into Tiffin and a few other companies that made a lot of satin glass. most of what i've come across has been rather highly decorated and very few in the same/similar shape :spls: so i guess i'm still at square one. if you or anyone else has any more ideas i'd be very grateful as i'm officially stuck :huh: my dh thinks it's italian; does that seem likely to anyone else?

I think it is Polish and quite recent. Look around charity shops ands you'll soon have quite a collection of satinated pink glass, and with a bit of luck you'll even find one labeled. I think Violeta did a lot of pink satin.

thank you Ivo, i've not heard of Violeta and couldn't find anything about them online. could you steer me in the right direction so i may have a peek at their wares? this vase doesn't look like the polish ones found at stores like tj maxx that i've seen (which are usually murano or bohemian look-a-likes)... by recent do you mean within the past 5 years or the past 25 years? even if it's not special it's well made and pretty and i'd still like to find out more about it if i can. i appreciate your input.
thank you Cathy B, the more pieces of Bagley i looked at the more certain i became that my vase was not theirs; the shape/style just doesn't fit, though the color and finish are reminiscent as Iaian noted.

thank you for the link Ivo. i reviewed every piece on the Violetta website and did a google search for "violetta vase -ebay -lalique" (lalique has a form called violetta that dominated the first few pages of results) and every piece of glass i found was cut/etched 24% lead crystal. nothing that even approximated the shape or finish. Violetta's website does not provide an email address so i tried calling but, as i speak no polish that was a complete bust ha ha
i respect your knowledge and experience and appreciate your replies. you write with such confident authority that it's tempting to take you at your word even in the absence of evidentiary support but, without something tangible to go on i am not ready condemn this vase the modern repro/import file. if i find any evidence that sheds light on this vase's possible origin/identity i'll post it and i'll cite my source(s) ;) until then, opinions, ideas, suggestions, etc. are most appreciated.
