Title: Is this a fake 'Starry nights'
Post by: Glassyone on November 01, 2005, 05:10:41 PM

It looks too green, too 'clunky' and the swirls are too tight and thick.
Or is it just me being 'thick'?

I have a bowl, sadly badly damaged by temperature change, so can compare the two.

Then that explains the variations. Many hands make light work. The  'fingerprints' are quite different.

Hello Ruth,
So sorry about the crack to your bowl.
I really like the "starry night" pieces. The really well made ones have a 3D effect to the swirls that is really amazing.
To the best of my knowledge, the green one you posted the link to was made as a cigar ashtray. That is why it has the unusual shape. The part where its pulled out is to rest the cigar.

How interesting! Thank you Javier.
I am not a  collector of Murano, not yet, so don't know much about it. If you or anyone else has one that looks like that I would like to see a picture.

Hi Ruth,
You want to see photos of a bowl lthat looks like yours of the green one?
I dont have one that looks like the green one in the stary night design, but do on a Yellow, Aventurine and Brown swirls bowl, also by Fratelli Toso. As far as shapes there are many many different ones. I have the same large centerpiece you have in Pink, a yellow bowl in a Star shape, i've had pieces that look like a "+" or cross shape, others look like a star fish with many fingers coming out of the center, shell and butterfly shapes, etc.
As far as colors, I think the most unusual ones are Yellow, Light Blue and Pink. Some are also colorless with only the Aventurine Swirls. The Fratelli Toso book by Leslie PiƱa has many examples of the shapes manufactured by the company.

Ah, thanks, it would be great to see the 'nicest', in your opinion and the clear!
Cheers Ruth

Amazing, I wondered why mine was shaped that way. Never thought of a cigar. Thanks Javier, Terry
