Title: STRATHEARN PAPERWEIGHT
Post by: Anonymous on March 03, 2005, 09:48:25 PM
Perhaps I'm some sort of thicko but I followed the various advise and instructions from individuals and the FAQ and be damned if I could get them to work ( Frank please delete my 3 postings entitled "test". )

So in Tinypic I previous ignored the instructions regarding Tag and simply pasted in the top line that says "Link". Damned if I know why the first wouldnt and the 2nd did .....but I seem to have got there in the end.

KevH.....one of the photo's I said I'd put on back in December once I found them again

You might not be 'a thicko' Gareth.  I've posted pics straight into a thread before, and couldn't tonight.  Couldn't work out why.

I haven't been able to post pics straight into a thread since the board went down recently.  Thought it was just me doing something stupid

Eventually worked out how to post the links, anyway

Why do we always assume it's us?  I've noticed my sons don't have the same attitude.  *They* assume it's the software or something, *never* their fault!    Is it a symptom of youth v. age?

Hi Gareth,

Thanks for showing the photos of these very nice Strathearn weights. And well done for perservering with the links.

Both weights would look very nice in my collection - so if you get bored with them and fancy sending me a gift ...  8)

These are shown in the 1979 brochure as:

"PSFS102" - Top and side facets and quatrefoil garland within regular garland.

"PPS101" -  Top and single side facet, to stand upright, hence the "Portrait" designation that Richard mentioned previously.

In my view, all of the 1979 range of weights were really good and show what could have become regular best sellers if they had continued the paperweight production.

I can never get the quoting mechanism to work. Very jealous of those who manage to neatly highlight remarks in a previous posting, before answering. I'm sure i am being very dense, so if someone could explain would appreciate it.

Do you mean the bit in the box as above...now I really am gonna feel dumb if this goes pear shaped.
In your posting I clicked on quote
When it appeared in my respose box I highlighted it and in the boxes above you will see one which says "quote"........while the text you selected is highlighted simply click on the "qoute" box and wallah..there it is..........hopefully.

aa...

What I do is this:

1)  COPY what you want to quote before hitting REPLY.

2)  Then in the REPLY box hit QUOTE and then paste what you've copied IN.  Then hit QUOTE again, that finishs the quote.

I find Quote quite temperamental, and simply CANNOT quote halfway through my writing like other people manage to do.  Perhaps my way (above) will work for you Adam.

Thanks Gareth and Max. I'll have a go, but I think glass blowing is a lot less tricky.

In your first 'quote' you actually put a backslash, that is / before the word 'quote'.  It didn't work because this is how you *close* a quote.  If you just put the word quote in square brackets *before* what you are quoting and backslash quote, that is /quote, in square brackets *after* the words you are quoting, it comes out as above.

You can just click on the quote option in the previous message and write your words underneath what appears, or you can insert  'square brackets backslash quote' part of the way through, insert your own words and then put 'square brackets quote' again to continue the words in the previous message.

Just remember to always open a quote like this {quote} and close it like this {/quote} except that the brackets should be the square ones, of course.  I can't actually do it to show you, 'cos if I do it just inserts a quote!

Hope that's not too complicated!

Leni

(Actually, it took me ages to work it out myself   )

No Adam, (show off   )

It is not the quote button in the reply form. Instead of using 'Reply' hit the quote button in the list ing display for the message you want to quote. Pheeeww what a lot of words .... just lift your eyes a little bit from HERE look to the right and then click quote... You are now reading my message in a reply message window.

You type your response after the last [ / quote ] command.

I expect to this message in a neat white box...NOW

I find it easier to just use "Post Reply", then locate any text I wish to quote from a previous message (in the "Topic Review" window below this Posting one) and highlight and copy it (just like in a wordprocessor application, using the mouse).

I then paste it into my reply text wherever I need it.

After that, I highlight the pasted text (again with standard mouse operation) and just click once on the "Quote" button at the top of the Posting window - that adds the opening and closing "tags" without me having to worry about syntax and so forth.

This method works well for quoting several pieces of text from various previous responses.

I'm not sure I'm the right person to ask Mick    If you have a paperweight you'd like to discuss, please start a new topic in the Paperweight section and upload a photo (the way to do it is at the top of that section).  I'm sure someone will help you.   :D
