Very fine business card bowl.

I'm curious as to why you call it a business card bowl?

Hej Carolyn - I am not sure that business card bowl does cover the right function for this piece, it is more my free translation of the Danish name for the bowl "Visitkort skål" - But in the old days in Denmark and in France it was costum, when visiting in the finer society, to leave a visitcard (business card) in the bowl so that you could be annonced properly to the resident that your were paying a visit.

They were called Visiting Cards in the UK.  Essentially the same as the modern Business card but not restricted to trades and professions.

Okay, I have heard of the custom. And it does look like something old enough to go with the custom, I just thought there was decisiveness in the statement.  :)
