But on the base it is inscribed Of . N 1906 This is what I'm not sure it looks like A H. S
Any idea's anybody. As I don't have my camera at cannot sent a photo, but will next week.

I don't know if I placed this before # I have a Large Tumber with the etched naked lady holding folowers. It is 5 Inch High and 4 Inch Dia, the etching is 3 Inches. On the base it is scribed
Of. N 1906 Then (possibly A H.S), It is hard to make out. Can't send photo yet. Can any one help?
-
You posted it a few minutes ago. It's really hard to help without photos (profile shot and base shot as a minimum), so you might be better waiting to ask questions until you have pictures. We have enough trouble with IDs when we do have pictures.
-
Of is Orrefors, N is Nils Landberg. But we will need photographs to confirm.
-
That Ivo is no fool he knows it spot on but just wants to see the naked lady . :ooh:

Sorry folks but I am having problems trying to reduce the pixils to 124 or less to show this photo, As I said before the inscription on the base is- of N 1906 h4,S. But there is more as I put some chalk dust on the base the other inscription is OF HA 1852/5 (or S). What does these further inscriptions tell you???????

Here's the help topic on posting pictures http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,6522.0.html
It's 125 kB, not pixels. You want the longest dimension to be about 700 pixels.
-
I am still trying to post a photo
-
Yet another, soory about the standard but I'm doing my best. Could not get a photo of base to show the signature,
-
if you have a scanner you can use that for the sig. It often works (not always though)
-
OF refers to Orrefors.
H refers to Edward Hald
A refers to refers to cut glass - meaning it is not crystal and has been engraved
1852 will be the basic design shape and probably means it was registered first in about 1937
/5 may be a size or engraved design code. This latter I am not sure which is relevant.

Thank you Ahremck,
I have noted your details in regards to this peice. I will continue to research. again thanks
-
John I suggest you look at
http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,36238.msg196892.html#msg196892
where you get input from Daniel(who is Swedish and much more of an expert than I) as well. On reading again the /5 refers to the type of object eg. /2 = bowl. Ppresumably /5 refers to a vase or tumbler.

to DanielS
In regards to this thick tumbler as I call it. What does the following letters mean when its in the lower key ie
of N1906 then followed by I think a small h 4,5. Compared to the other OF HA 1852/5.
Is the designers initial in lower case or CAPITAL. This is getting quite confusing for me.
If it is of N1906 - would this be by Nils Landberg?? or OF HA 1852/5 - this would be E Hald???
DanielS please help and try to decipher my brain drain here!!!!!
-
:hi: John,
If you agree, I'll move this piece to the Scandinavian glass section, where Daniel is more likely to see it, and also change the title a little to get his attention. :) Let me know you've read this first though - otherwise you might think your thread has vanished and wonder why.

In case you missed it in the link I gave you here is a useful table for Orrefors glass m- not absolutely complete but a good start:-
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
ORREFORS CRYSTAL
Unique
Art glass produced in a single, unique piece. Signed by the artist.
EA
(Until 30th June, 1998, stood for Épreuve d'Artiste.) Art glass objects made in very short runs comprising a maximum of five pieces. Signed by the artist.
Gallery
Orrefors Gallery collections are produced in limited runs of between 15 and 60 pieces. Signed by the artists. Several Orrefors artists are normally represented in each Gallery collection.
Studio
A new art glass category introduced on 1st July, 1998. Runs are as for Gallery, i.e. between 15 and 60 pieces, but do not form part of a collection.
Expo
Art glass made in a predetermined run of at least 100 pieces.
The following two tables show the meaning of the lettering in Orrefors numbers:
Initial Designer Initial Designer Initial Designer
A Olle Alberius H Edward Hald P Sven Palmqvist
B Gunnar Cyrén J Jan Johansson R Carl Fagerlund
D Ingeborg Lundin K Henning Koppel S John Selbing
F (Karl) Edvin Öhrström L Vicke Lindstrand T Lars Hellsten
G Simon Gate N Nils Landberg V Eva Englund
(NB: From 1980, two initials have been used, e.g.: NL = Nils Landberg, BB = Gunnar Cyrén)
Glass types
Initial followed by letter A for cut glass
Initial followed by letter E for frosted glass
Initial followed by letter U for uncut, smooth glass
Initial followed by letter Z for green iridescent glass
Initial followed by Graal-S or S-Graal for Slip-Graal
-----------------------------------------------------------------
So that means you have an Edward Hald piece - Of HA etc.
and a Nils Landgerg piece Of N**** etc..
Ivo's little book indicates both were designed in 1937.
