Title: Tapio Wirkkala: XL- size comb-cut bowl? Fake?
Post by: gareth1983 on January 08, 2021, 09:13:06 PM
Hi all,

I have recently started collecting Scandinavian glass and would be grateful for advice on the below item currently on Ebay! Is this a fake item or genuine? Upon researching it, this seller has sold several before and I would have thought there would be more than two photos! Any advice would be great! Also where is good place to pick such glass in the u.k?

Welcome to the message board Gareth.

There is a good website run by collectors for Finish glass: https://www.designlasi.com/en

The bowl on ebay looks right, beautiful design, example here on Designlasi to compare: https://www.designlasi.com/en/content/art-object-3337-wirkkala-tapio-en

These are the last few items sold by the ebay seller, some nice items there: https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/nordiccircle/m.html?item=143909406882&LH_Complete=1&LH_Sold=1&rt=nc&_trksid=p2046732.m1684

You are welcome, at the moment with various lock downs online is about the only place to buy glass. When things improve the big antique fairs dotted around the country are good. The best range of glass available is generally at the National Glass Fair, held twice a year near Birmingham.

In the meantime I would recommend buying the odd book on Scandinavian glass to learn a bit more and let your interest delve around a bit. Books often seem expensive at first but usually pay for themselves many time over.

There must be groups on facebook dedicated to Scandinavian glass as well.
