Title: comments on an attractive trinket tray. - ID = Libochovice pattern 1970
Post by: Paul S. on February 28, 2010, 08:14:18 PM
I kept this one because unusually, for me, it has a Regd. No., which is 821596 - which runs down to July '37.   However, thought it was attractive anyway with the large sort of Deco tear drop design.      According to the 'Blue Book' this registration number is for Hoskins Rose & Co., about whom I can see almost nothing.  Having looked thru much of the 'Blue Book' it wud seem that their venture into the world of glass was exceptionally brief.    Were they in fact simply wholesalers or distributors?      Hope you like the pic.    Paul S.

Hmm, according to Anne's trinket set site it's the same pattern as Libochovice #1970:

However, can guarantee that it does carry the Regd. No. quoted (to be read from the underside  -  adjacent to the main curve)  -  but you are correct, it is an absolute dead ringer for Anne's Libochovice, right down to the exact size - someone buy the mould??       sincere thanks.     Paul S.

Nope, it is Libochovice. Hoskins Rose were importers not makers. Importers and agents are often shown as the registrant of a design, especially for the Czech factories.

thank you for your helpful reply Anne  -  and I had suggested originally that I thought they were factors of some sort, rather than makers.    Anyway, now I know for certain.   If only life wasn't sometimes so complicated!    Paul S.

You're welcome Paul. :)  I have a few pieces with RD nos registered by Hoskins Rose, all of which appear in the Libochovice catalogue, so there was clearly a strong business relationship there.

I have the same trinket tray, BUT, also a candlestick (Reg 821596). The Trinket Set Website states there is only a tray!

Any suggestions?

It just means no-one has found anything else to match yet. The candlestick will have a different pattern number.

It means the GTS site hasn't yet got that info as I'm adding new stuff all the time. :)

Can you tell me the precise registration date of the tray, please, Paul?

The candlesticks are Libochovice pattern 1971 (and they appear on page 49 of the pre-1958 Libochovice catalogue on Marcus Newhall’s Sklo Union CD-ROM). Seems likely to have been a pair with a set (see attached photo – permission for the re-use of the image on GMB granted by greyinc33).

The matching lidded trinket pot would appear to be Libochovice pattern 1972 (page 42 of the pre-1958 Libochovice catalogue). Diameter 112mm. Distinctive ‘ pointed arrow head’-shaped finial to pot lid.

Anne has the matching perfume flask as Libochovice pattern 1973A (but without a photo) on her GTS site at
http://www.glasstrinketsets.com/cms15/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=142&Itemid=138
and it is shown on page 47 of the pre-1958 Libochovice catalogue.

Page 39 of the  pre-1958 Libochovice catalogue shows a rectangular tray with 2 side-handles as  pattern 1974 (340x190mm) which I suppose could be a trinket tray (or perhaps just a serving tray), and also 2 sizes of what appear to be rectangular lidded boxes or pots matching tray 1974, but with completely different lid finials to pot 1972 or perfume flask 1973.
