Title: Has anyone see this Archimede Seguso label?
Post by: sandymae on March 30, 2010, 05:36:57 AM
Have just won an auction for 2 little rabbits with this label on, I've never seen it before, so hope that someone can tell me that they are genuine.

Is it a clear, plastic label? If yes, I've not seen it, and it's not listed in any book I've seen, but it is the same shape, design, and wording as the standard Seguso label introduced in the 1980's. And the bunnies look real Seguso, too. I would have bought them as Seguso, at the right price. Anita (TxSilver) is the bunny expert, though.

Hi David,  Yes the label is clear plastic, I also thought the bunnies looked real, but the label was a new one on me. Hopefully Anita might be able to help.

Thanks, Sandra

The bunnies look fine for Seguso, there are a few photos in Lace & Stone page 160. The one lying down is illustrated in the book and the form of the other although not shown looks spot on too.

The label is not illustrated in the book but I would guess it is of fairly recent use as it's plastic.

Both the label and bunnies are fine. Archimede Seguso marketed many of their alabastro pieces in the 1980s. These pieces have the oval, smooth-edged red label or the plastic label. The plastic one would be a good one to upload to the labels file.

Yes, I can confirm with no doubt that your bunnies are real.  I have two plates (one broken, one just fine) that has the same exact labels with the AS box and literature so I can confirm that your bunnies are real.  My camera will not allow me to take close ups of the labels because it is a piece of you know what but I did take pics of the box and literature.

It is interesting.  I was looking at the literature the other day and on the back of the literature is a picture of Archimede Seguso with Gino Seguso and Archimede looks really old so you can tell that my dishes were made at the decline of career.  It brought a tear to my eye.  He was so brillant.

:hiclp: Thanks very much everyone for all the information, when they arrive will put up the label in Murano labels.

Tam bam I'v had my last 3 parcels arrive from USA broken, so am really hestiant to buy anything else.  Have paid for insurance, but our PO over here say that as they were'nt packed well, no insurance!  Some sellers just think wrapp in paper, squeeze into a tight box and it'll be fine!

Sandymae - congratulations on your purchase they are pretty solid things so I am sure they will arrive OK.

I have had the opposite experience, everything I have bought from the USA has been reasonably well packaged (compared to Australia). The last one I received was a box within a box with fine expanded Polystyrene over the glass, then 2 layers of bubble wrap, tied with ribbon and labelled with thanks, inserted into another box with foam at bottom and chips of polystyrene around it. It could have been kicked to my front door and been fine, which I am sure several of the Aussie post office workers enjoy doing if something has FRAGILE written on it.

However I have just had my first piece go missing. It was posted from the USA but has not arrived in Australia. Luckily it was not a serious piece, it is a Murano salad bowl with gold that I needed as we don't have a decent salad bowl. Unfortunately you cant put a trace on anything until after 30 days so from next week we can try to trace it.  :spls: I am wondering what the chances are of getting it?

Thanks Ardy, good to know that there are some good packers still out there, I had no trouble with parcels until this year, I get that sinking feeling as soon as I hear that tinkle of glass!
I very nicely ask the sellers to wrapp them well and double box, as I don't mind paying extra to get everythiing safely here, but sometimes the boxes are so thin and the items wedged in touching the corners, that as soon as you see them you know, like that pheasant I have, its tail was pushed right into a corner.
But today I have a parcel arrive and I think it could have been chucked out of the plane as it went over, and survived. :hiclp:
