Title: Help ID etched mark ID = Peill & Putzler
Post by: squizoid on April 01, 2011, 03:55:39 AM
Hi, I haven't bought the item yet as I am unsure of the etch mark on the base, I have done the pic in photoshop to show the mark. It is on the base of tall hand blown candle holder. The pic is pretty close to the original and someone if they know it should recognize it. I would say it is around 3-4mm wide.

Hi
Perhaps a Peill & Putzler mark upside down?

Hi, thanks for that, I have confirmed via google, probably worth the NZ$10 to get it then? it reminds me of the Holmegaard Casiopedia ones.

Peill is a good name in German crystal and glass. The value though will depend a bit on the period the piece was made and the general shape. The best 60s-70s Horst Tüselmann vases can go over 100 euro, and some of the design lamps from that period do more than that. Later production or less spectacular looking vases I can usually get for 10-15. NZ $10 sounds fine for a decent sized piece if you like the shape.

Please post! I've become quite a fan of Peill & Putzler and I always enjoy seeing what's out there to get me in "It must be mine!" mode.

Hi, got it this morning, it is 32cm tall (12.5"). The one on the right of pic. Any ideas as to designer/year?

It bears similarities in style to series like Alexa and Air that are in the 1979 catalogue. According to one book I have, Alexa was already available in the 1960s, so the design of your candlestick might also be of that period. Stylistically, IMO it doesn't fit the designs of the 80s and later, so I'd say probably 60s or 70s at the latest as a design period (which doesn't mean it wasn't produced later than that). In my book no designer is mentioned for the Alexa and/or the Air series.

It says that in that period, a number of designers worked in Atelier Peill+ Putzlers who were influenced by the German designer Wagenfeld (for instance in the sense that goblet shaped wine glasses became more smooth and uncut)
