Hello the can any one help me with this piece of glass please, it has heavy wear to the base and it's signed but the signature is very worn, it;s 2 1/4 inches in height 5 inches in width and 2 1/2 inches thick, thanhs regard Chris.

I don't know what you're really asking when you write 'help' here. But the type shown is a typical gift-souvenir piece sold in Sweden to tourists . They are seldom signed by the artist as they are a commercial issue. If you wish to know the first year of issue, approximate retail price when issued (in Sweden) and, if available, the name of the artist you can contact Kosta Boda in English here and they'll probably give you a very courteous reply: www.kostaboda.se

Chris, I can't be sure that it is KOSTA BODA or not. If you contact the co. from their website I'm sure they'll tell you.

Whitefriars also sold lumps of cullet - some of them have ended up engraved.

I am wondering if the name could be Dostal. Ladislav Dostal engraved glass in Australia in the early 70s (I have two items one of which is an angelfish - although slightly different from yours). Apparently he worked in Norway before coming out here.
I would suggest that you could take a photo at a shallow angle (see two I have of the the same Kosta Boda base below). This method removes all of the background distortion and the signature is often much easier to read.

I'll put some more photo's of the signature up a bit later today, the base is so badly worn it will be tricky i might take them in day light, the wear looks like something a 200 year old piece of glass should have, some lovely pieces of glass on that Lesley Pike website improved my late break at work and cheared a dreary morning up.

I have taken a few more photo's of the signature on this piece, the only way i could was to hold it hence the reflections.

- or, on another pic, wondered if the last word might be Lynn, as in King's Lynn?
Chris, have you tried rubbing a little talcum powder over the mark, then removing the excess with a gentle sweep of your thumb?
That might help bring the engraving out over (under?) the wear.

I've just looked through the Wedgwood book, and get the impression that their cullet shaped pieces were a lot neater than this, so possibly not from K.L.
I thought that the last part of the squiggle might have included an L - does anyone know how Tyra Lundgren signed her pieces - she was at Reijmyre near that time, and did do fish, albeit much earlier in her career. I'm probably wrong, just a ramble. :)

I too think Reijmyre looks good. The date is fairly early and they did lovely animals.

Thanks for all your help because of this i have stumbled upon another piece of glass i posted that had no replies also by Reijmyre (Paul Kedelv) a frosted Madonna.

You are reading Reijmyre, another glass works near Norrköping, Sweden. As a school child I visited these glass works with my class. We watched how glass was blown and shaped, very interesting. A very old but quite small glass works, producing very fine glass. All I have from there is a small figurine with two owls, "lovebird" style, a gift from my children. They had no idea that their mom had actually visited the place where it was made!
