Title: Large glass fish . . . Maker please???
Post by: jazimmons on May 18, 2010, 01:31:16 PM
:spls:  Murano, not being my area, has got me troubled somewhat with identifying this MONSTER FROM THE DEEP!  Please see my photobucket links.

The maker sure seems an accomplished person, for this fish is both large and also the base has been blown.  There is an unpolished pontil to the base.  It stands 16" total height including the base and has been produced using cased crystal.  Any ideas from any source would be welcomed and appreciated  :kissy:  Jazz

These large multi-coloured fish are more likely from Czechoslovkia or even Romania

Could also be Polish.

Thankx Lustrous . . .  I learn something new from you every day!  Hadn't even considered another country.  The glass does not appear to be modern, though I also have no ideas about its probable age?  Jazz

Lustrous, by the way, can you shed any light on my Iridescent vase with bronze mounts on?  That one is getting to me, big time!  :spls: Jazz

Just for comparison...

The first fish is probably Czech... it's well made, even pretty.
The second fish is 100% Polish...  not so well made, and not so pretty, but a 'must' in any modern PRL (Communist) Polish home  ;D

Hi Anik R.  The beautiful thing about this GMB is that I continue to learn every day, from people who know their stuff!  The fish that I have is my only of this type of glass and before listing it here, I knew nothing.  I simply guessed that they were all Murano. I have a much earlier vintage glass vase, with a fish which has been incorporated onto its base.  A lovely item which i shall add to these pages for your comparisons and appraisals.  Thankx again, Jazz  :kissy:

I think REAL FISH are easier to identify, than some of these Glass ones, geeeeeez....... :24: :pb:
