Title: Black vase
Post by: Gill on November 19, 2006, 10:28:35 AM
Hi, as usual I've got loads of stuff I'd like you to look at but have managed to ration myself to two.  Still hoping to be of some help to others on the forum but everytime something comes up that I do know about someone beats me to it.  I feel a bit silly just saying,"Yes, I agree"
Anyway, I'd appreciate it if you could cast your eyes over this vase, not very exciting but I keep coming back to it because I don't believe I have seen another one like it.  thought it could be a modern ikea piece but it does have quite a bit of surface wear. The glass has a sort of pitted effect in places and quite a gritty look when strong light shines through i.  15cms in height.,thanks in advance, Gill

This is interesting to me, because I'd love to know what chemical constituent causes the 'grainy' look!  I have a big black bowl (made by our own Adam Aaronson) which looks quite purple - as I detect in yours - as well as grainy when a strong light shines through it, although my bowl doesn't seen quite as 'dense' as your vase!  http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/albums/userpics/normal_Black_bowl_with_sunlight_behind_it.jpg
Sorry, I suppose this doesn't actually help you find a maker!

Hey Leni, don't apologise, any reply is interesting! Actually it's more of a brown colour than purple when the light shines through, maybe someone else can shed some more light on this for us, especially the grainy effect, cheers, Gill :)
