Hello everyone,
When I was browsing paperweights on ebay, I saw this and something clicked...it was like something I've seen before. Someone tried to buy it now but was turned down.

If you get a chance...could you look at this and see if it looks like any maker you know? I am bidding, but it still has some time to go, and something tells me it will go high.
Thanks and stay cool!

Yip looks french, a couple more photo's would confirm and the price would go,go,go :o 8)
Glassnut, better if we use the ebay links at the top of the screen, it helps the board.
-
hi karel, where is the link at the top of the screen? or do i need to find my glasses ;D
-
I agree with French, the red & white murrhines (9 parts with centre) match Clichy canes from the Jargstorf book.
As to the search boxes on top - I use Norton 360 (antivirus etc) and can't see any boxes either
and links to ebay and amazon don't work.
-
The screens at the top are not a biggy, I was just mentioning them.
FLTR you should see an ebay.com, ebay.co.uk, then the Glass Encyclopedia and Glass Musuem and then amazon.com search thingymebobs. Every time you enter a search in there the board gets 0.00000001% ;D of a penny but still it helps the board.

Thanks everyone,
I was thinking that but am not experienced enough to know. The person didn't even show a picture on the main search page. I've been outbid already...we'll see how it goes. Thank you.....feel free to bid on it too if you want...I doubt I would get it anyway~

Hi again...I googled St. Mande, just to find out more about it, but couldn't find much. Does anyone have a good site for them?
-
Just me again....since I can't afford the clichy...can I get some advice on this one?

It doesn't look much like the other one, but I'm always hopeful I will find one!
Thanks, Pat

murano, no doubt, it looks ok but there are better examples on ebay.

For general info ...
St Mandé is a factory that has only relatively recently been identified. And it has taken a lot of research and comparison of various weights to get an understanding of the attribution by cane structures.
Many weights that were thought to have been Bohemian have now been re-attributed through cane matching to St Mandé. In the webpage for the Antique Bohemian section (http://www.kevh.clara.co.uk/exhib99/Antique/Bohemian/BohemianList.htm) of the CPC 1999 Exhibition I have not got around to checking out which are now thought to be St Mandé, but Row 1, Col 1, 2 & 3; Row 2, Col 1, 2, 3 & 5 and Row 3, Col 2 to 5 may be candidates for reassessment.
There is no website that I know of that covers St Mandé in any particular detail. But checking out the main paperweight dealers can reveal some examples. A god book which covers the subject in 6 pages (roughly A5 size) is Identifying Antique Paperweights, The Less Familiar by George N. Kulles, published 2002 and available through main paperweight dealers or via ISBN 0-933756-43-7.
Another even more recent development in old French weight Id, has come about through research that has shown some items to be from the Grenelle factory. And suddenely there is a flurry of Ids to Grenelle that previously were "uncertain" or even beleived to be St Mandé.

Kevin, you rock...thank you.
I am a new collector, but am intrigued at what I learn. The more I learn, the better I can spot a good weight, like the clichy. Can you imagine a Buy it Now?
I definitely have to get some paperweight books.
Thanks for the info on St. Mande...wow.
Pat :)

Re link boxes - many ad blockers and cookie blockers etc., can prevent these being displayed.

Hi!
I found a paperweight that is actually listed as a St. Mande.
Here is the link if you are interested.

Patricia,
The seller of that weight is not a bad one....you might want to go have a look at their website...same as their name.
Kind regards,
karelm

Thanks...I will look at their website, but I'm not bidding on this...out of my range, I'm sure.
Thought one of you might be interested.
