Title: Orange cloud glass price.
Post by: Jodie on February 24, 2012, 06:51:33 AM
Hi, I am new to this site, so please forgive me for any stuff ups. I have found a Davidson Orange cloud glass 3 piece flower set with black plinth (size 2) and frog that I am interested in buying from a local collectables shop in Australia. I have been on cloudglass.com to find out about it. I have discovered that it is pattern no. 699D, size 14.5". I just would like to know from collectors with more experience approx. what would you expect to pay for a piece like this. All 3 pieces are in beautiful condition with only one small chip on one foot of the plinth. Any info or advice would be much appreciate. Thanks Jodie

Put it like this; they are desirable and scarce. A complete set is very good. Most of the orange cloud seems to have gone to Australia

I believe orange is the scarcest colour - this does add a considerable premium - especially in a set, and more especially in good nick.

Red cloud is the rarest (named ORA), but this was sprayed onto the outer surface of amber cloud. I also have two pieces of orange cloud, one of which was brought from Australia. As mentioned before - very scarce and highly desirable to Davidson collectors.

....... so I stuck an "nge" on the end of Ora and got the wrong end of the stick.... or the wrong colour.....
sorry. Both red and orange are very scarce....... ok, enough excuses, I'm off to hibernate.

there have been a few pieces on ebay fairly recently so you may get an idea of cost/price/value with some searching, although I haven't looked to see if any listings are still available to few.
I think this is a stunning colour.

Hi..... I've collected, bought, and sold many many pieces of cloud glass over the past 27 years..... As long as this is a genuine and much rarer 14.5 inch and not the slightly  smaller version... and importantly being a complete 3 piece set I would not feel it all exorbitant to pay up to £275 for the modified orange and if well marked, as the unmodified can be, then £350...and poss a little more...... A beautiful and impressive set..... If you do buy it please load up some photographs here....

Hope this helps

Gareth

Lovely to see you, Gareth - thanks for popping in to comment here.
Every time I think of you, it's always in conjunction with red and orange cloud glass "globes" - were they lamps?
(sorry, I just see the glass, not what the object actually is!)

Hi Sue....... Good to be wandering around here... and good to see you osmosing.. :smg:.. nothing like good old ferret and gut instinct to suck up a nose or two of gotchya !!!!!.....  And yes I still have my cloud OCD to keep me comfort when fidgeting becomes rather random and directionless....that a million other things too..... and how about you....what treasures have you stumbled over recently....

And I see we share a like minded imperative with the ubiquitous black stands...I love 'em....If I could find a couple big enough I'd strap 'em to my boots.... they so often give a piece of glass its final balance and justification......  :-[ ......or maybe I'm simply demented.....oh well..... I can live with that.....

Well..... keep warm North of the border .... and make sure you keep the gates shut before those darned English pour over the borders desperate to escape from their oppression...!!!!!!!

Take care

Gareth

I can see us being cafe-d!
My most important finds over the last few years have been an early Alison Kinnaird storm lantern and an amazing bit of Sam Herman from '67. I'll track down the threads on them for you.

 >:D As far as escaping the capitalist opressors is concerned  - anybody who considers them to be opressors is welcome to seek asylum  :ghug: - we may have to shift the borders a bit south to accommodate you all.

Perhaps devolution for the south-east of England would actually be the most appropriate way to go.  >:D

It was not a steal, no, Gareth. I found it at the Birmingham fair last November, fairly early on. The seller knew exactly what it was, and how important.
It does have a burst bubble, which doesn't really show, but that was enough to bring it down to my entire "fair budget".
(I had to make excuses to top it up, tell myself that this wasn't a treat from the fair, that it is a basic essential of life...... It was a good enough excuse.  ;D )

Thanks for your kind comments!
