Title: Polished & Satin Glass Panther/Cat French Label ID Needed
Post by: nostalgicopia on September 09, 2007, 12:00:53 AM
One of the regulars on the eBay US Glass Discussion Board suggested I post pictured of this item here.  This beautiful piece measures about 10-1/2" long.  It has a label that has the word 'francaise' at the top, and script in the center.  I've taken photos of the label in regular light and in black light.  Does anyone know who made this piece, or whose label this is?  Thank you in advance for your help.  Russ

Bumping this up - I still can't find any information on this - does anyone have any ideas?  Thanks.

Could the first word be Bayel?

Bayel looks possible but that does not make sense... as the next word should be Cristal and that does not look like it, yet the piece could well be that if it is unmarked.

G Marquet, Veuve et Fils, Verreries SA.

Established in 1666. Other marks are Fains, Fains Marquot, Cristalleries de Champagne, PAR MVB, Mazolay, Art Vannes.

Can you get any of the other letters... might help build the rest up. I played with the label images and got a a fairly clear Francaise but cannot work out the word following it on the top of the label = ??GOR????

If the main name really is Bayel perhaps a retailer label. I would expect an Art Vannes mark.

I would appreciate copies of images to use in the glass zoo, preferred on a light background and various views. If we get  positive ID would let you know.

Frank:

Please let me know where to send the pictures for the Glass Zoo and I'll be glad to do so.  I've photographed this piece on a light background as you requested.

I've looked this over until I'm blurry-eyed, and cannot make out any other defining letters, etc., on the label.  I'm tempted to lift the other label (that has the price) to see if there's a mark underneath, but am stopping myself from doing that now.  I also looked this over carefully with flashlight for an etched mark anywhere, but could not find one.

Another name used on animals is Royale de Champagne. Same company though!
